Abstract

Metal is recovered from a metal beaming dross by collecting the dross in a receptacle having a trough with downwardly and inwardly inclined side walls having metal through passages. The metal which decants through the passages is collected and the dross is cooled and mechanically compressed to further decant the metal from the dross. Recovery of metal, particularly AL, from dross which has been skimmed from a reverberatory or electric furnace. The trough and cooperating wedge members serve to cool the dross material and so diminish metal loss due to thermite reaction. There is about 95% Al metal recovery from a dross contg. about 70% Al.
