Abstract
Permanent or electromagnets are placed by the tube tc create a magnetic field in the melt. The movement of the melt induces currents in the melt. The interaction of the field and current produces a braking force in the melt. Used in permanent or electro magnets produce a magnetic field B across the tube. Current I is induced in the melt and both produce a force according the equations F=BxI. Used in control of molten metal in casting or conveying. (Provisional basic previously advised in Week 8402).
