Abstract

Flat weldable polyolefin film having a thickness of 10-100 microns and a surface tension of 38-40 dynes/cm, has one surface coated with a finishing compsn. and the other surface coated with a finishing compsn. under a varnish layer. The finishing compsn. comprises a polyethylene-imine of mol.wt. 10000-30000 or a urea or melamine formaldehyde condensn. prod. esp. the etherified derivs. or alkoxymelamine polyhydroxylate or their mixts. The varnish is an alkyl (meth)acrylate (co)polymer of mol.wt. 20000-100000, or vinyl(idene)chloride or acetate (co)polymers of mol.wt. 10000-20000. The treated film, pref. polypropylene, is used for packaging. It has improved printability, dimensional stability, reduced tendency to stick to the jaws of packaging machines and reduced residual solvent content.
