Abstract
A voltage-dependent resistance layout, which is intended for example to protect series capacitors, contains a large number of series and parallel connected zinc oxide varistors 2. The varistors are divided into a number of resistance units 1, each containing one or more stacks 11, 12 of such varistors installed in a housing 4 alongside each other. To avoid a fault in one varistor 2 causing a persistent short circuiting of the entire resistance layout, the resistance units 1 are arranged in several electrically series-connected resistance stages, where each such stage comprises one or more parallel- connected resistance units 1 and where all varistors 2 within the same resistance unit are connected in parallel. <IMAGE>
