Abstract
A possibly one-time-use centrifugal separator for separation of impurities from contaminated oil is specified. The centrifugal separator has a shell 11 which defines a first chamber 12 and has a hollow rotor 21 mounted so that it can rotate in the first chamber 12, which rotor defines a second chamber 23. Oil under pressure is let into the second chamber 23 through concentrically arranged pipes or axles and passes through a low-pressure shutoff valve 40. Oil flows into the first chamber 12 through tangential jet nozzles 27, 28 in the rotor 21, causing impurities to migrate toward the side wall of the second chamber 23 under the action of centrifugal force. The shell 11 and rotor 21 are permanently sealed, so that the entire unit can be discarded when a substantial quantity of impurities has been deposited on the side wall of the second chamber 23. A baffle network 55 is mounted between the tangential jet nozzles 27, 28 and an outlet opening 20 in the first chamber to prevent build-up of fluid at the inner side wall of the first chamber 12, which may have a tendency to disturb the turning of the rotor. <IMAGE>
