Abstract

In a valve having a valve chamber (1) in whose base plate an inlet (2) is provided for the water flowing out of a washbasin and an outlet (4) is provided for the water flowing into a reduced-pressure line (5), and in which the wall of the valve chamber opposite the base plate is formed by a membrane (6) which is at atmospheric pressure, because of the pressure difference between the atmosphere and the pressure prevailing in the reduced-pressure line (5), the membrane lies in a sealing manner against the outlet (4) of the reduced-pressure line (5). The ratio between the opening cross-section of the outlet (4) and the area of the membrane (6) surrounding the outlet is selected such that, when the fluid column in the outlet flow line from the basin reaches a specific height h, the membrane (6) is lifted off the outlet (4) and the water flowing out of the basin can flow out into the reduced-pressure line (5). <IMAGE>
