Abstract

The invention is a method for separating oil from oil-contaminated wastewater, such as industrial runoff water or used oil emulsions. Purification occurs through stripping with an acid, such as a hydrochloric acid, and extraction with a solvent, preferably freon, whereby the runoff water becomes sufficiently free of non-polar content and other hydrocarbons to meet given standards to be able to supply the water network.<IMAGE>
