Abstract

The invention relates to a sleeve for protecting a lance, the sleeve comprising a moulded ring (2) of refractory material. The ring has at least one open-work reinforcing frame (10) formed from wire netting and embedded in the refractory material around its inner cylindrical surface (14). Helically wound spacing wires (12) hold the reinforcing frame at a distance from the inner surface of the mould during manufacture of the ring. <IMAGE>
