Abstract

The invention concerns a process for regulating humidity in a continuously moving paper web in a papermaking machine. The paper web's humidity is measured by moving a sensor to and fro over at least a significant part of the paper web's width; signals thereby generated in the sensor by the humidity values, are used to control the devices, which affect the paper web's humidity. A technical device transforms the humidity measurements into the following secondary values: a cross profile (PN), a length variation u(k) and an estimatable coupling factor B, where the relationship <IMAGE> is used. Here DN(k) is the net value taken at the time k and the cross-position N, PN is the cross profile value in position N and Mr is a chosen reference value for the humidity. The length variation u(k) is used in conjunction with MR, used as reference value, to control signals to devices, which in the papermaking machine affect average humidity over the paper web. Additionally, a preparatory check on the effect of a hypothetical raising or lowering of the humidity reference value is conducted with the aid of the estimated coupling factor (B) and the cross profile (PN), and a simulation of the cross profile which is obtained after the hypothetical changes in reference value, is conducted and presented on, for example, a display screen.<IMAGE>
