Abstract

In a programmable unit which comprises a motor-driven syringe which is connected, via a catheter, to, for example, an injection needle, the syringe can be releasably mounted on top of a mounting box 1 which is equipped with the necessary driving, setting and displaying equipment. The unit is designed with two modes of operation which can be set independently, with one of the modes of operation involving administering a precisely measured injection dose at a rate which signifies a relatively large dose per unit of time and the other involving administering a precisely measured infusion dose at a rate which signifies a relatively small dose per unit of time. The unit is characterized, in the first place, by the fact that the driving, setting and displaying equipment of the unit is arranged, in a manner which ensures security of manipulation, behind a lockable and transparent outer lid 17, in the second place by the fact that a control unit is present in the form of a microprocessor, which control unit ensures that the unit effects the suitable dose sizes and injection rate, after the latter has been set by means of setting components 28 which are located on top of the mounting box 1 under the lockable outer lid 17 of the latter, and, in the third place, by the fact that it is possible to connect, to the unit, controlling components which operate at a distance and which can be used by the patient himself to activate the control unit to set in motion an administration function when a predetermined time interval has passed since the preceding administration occasion. <IMAGE>
