Abstract

The invention relates to new N,N'-bis- (phenylcarbamoylmethyl)-amidines having an antiarrhythmia activity. These compounds are prepared by reacting an amino acid amide with a suitable amino acid derivative such as an imidine acid ester or an alkyl orthoester. The resulting compounds have the general formula <IMAGE> (where R is a hydrogen atom, a C1-C4 alkyl group, a C3-C4 cycloalkyl group, a C1-C4-alkenyl group or a cyclopropylmethyl group; Rá is a hydrogen atom or a C1-C4 alkyl group. R2 is a hydrogen atom or a C1-C4 alkyl group, a halogen atom, a trifluoromethyl group, a C1-C4 alkoxy group or a cyano group; R3, R4 and R5 are hydrogen atoms, C1-C4 alkyl or C1-C4 alkoxy groups; R6 is a hydrogen atom, a C1-C4 alkyl group, a halogen atom or a C1-C4 alkoxy group; however, at most three of the groups R<2>-R<6> are other than hydrogen, and R<6> is not a halogen atom when R<2> is a trifluoromethyl or a cyano group). The invention also relates to pharmaceutically acceptable addition salts of these compounds formed with acids.
