Abstract

An oar comprises a timber shaft 1 and a reinforced plastics blade 2 into which a tapering end part 3 of the shaft extends over nearly the whole length of the blade to stiffen it. Preferably the end part 3 of the shaft is insert moulded, and thus directly bonded, in the blade. The oar is much less expensive than one which is made entirely out of glass fibre reinforced plastics material and more robust than one having an unlaminated wooden blade which is integral with the shaft. <IMAGE>
