Abstract

The device serves to stabilise the line of sight of a television camera, mounted on a vehicle. The camera (1) is mounted, by elastic elements (2), on a surface (3) of the vehicle. The camera (1) carries a flat mirror (4) illuminated by an emitter diode (5) with a parallel beam formed by a self-collimating lens (6). The light from the diode (5) is reflected by the mirror (4), through the lens (6), and is focussed on a detector (7). The movement of the vehicle causes the camera to rotate about the elements (2), relative to the reference plane (3). This movement is resolved into two orthogonal components (9) entailing an angular error of the line of sight (8) which occupies a new position (10). The detector (7) is divided into four quadrants allowing the production of two electrical signals for correcting the image movement. The invention finds its application in cameras on board aircraft. <IMAGE>
