Abstract

Means for preheating a ladle, converter or the like melt container 1 comprises a hood or cover 2, engageable with the open end of the container, and having at least one fuel burner 3. At least one conduit 4 leads gaseous products of combustion from the interior of the container 1 and at least one annular channel, between the conduit 4 and a surrounding pipe 5, supplies heated combustion air to the fuel burner. The pipe 5 and the exhaust conduit or conduits 4 form a supporting arm for the hood 2, supported by a column 6 having means, such as a hydraulic cylinder 7, for raising and lowering the supporting arm. The exhaust conduit or conduits 4, pass through at least part of the supporting column 6, and at least one gas outlet 9 is arranged on the supporting column 6 at a level below that of the supporting arm. <IMAGE>
