Abstract

The section of a sound-insulating, wall-like component (20), as may be used, for example, for air-intake lines of internal-combustion engines, comprises a base plate (22) on which there are arranged, in the conventional manner, cuboids (24) and (25) of different dimensions, but of the same height. This construction is based on the knowledge that sound insulation of a rigid wall is always low when the track wavelength of an incident planar wave and the bending wave velocity in the wall coincide. A wall-forming component of this type ensures, by virtue of this design of the wall cross-section, a considerably improved airborne-sound insulation. This component is suitable, in particular, for producing air-intake tubes and other engine components which are intended to shield areas with a high degree of airborne sound from the exterior. <IMAGE>
