Abstract
The installation e.g. a telecommunication plant, includes sampling means such as MX1 which samples cyclically incoming lines such as 101-116 and time shared logic means CL which processes successively sampled values received from the sampling means by means of a connection memory PM addressable in time with the cyclical sampling and comprising a word memory for each incoming line for storing processing results, and a time slot corresponding to a free incoming line is chosen for the function testing and fault localization. In the method, the successive processing is inhibited for the chosen time slot; instead of sampled values, test signals for the function testing and fault localization are supplied on line PO to the logic means in the time slot during at least one scanning cycle simultaneously as the inhibition occasionally is cancelled; and the processing result for the supplied test signals is compared with an expected value in order to determine whether a normal result has been obtained. <IMAGE>
