Abstract

1513642 Scanning optical images AGA AB 5 April 1976 [9 April 1975] 13649/76 Heading G2J [Also in Division H4] In an optical scanning system light from an object is scanned across detector 6, Fig. 7, by at least one rotating transmissive prism, e.g. 3, 4, there being provided adjacent the beam path prior to the scanning prism(s) at least one reference source, e.g. 61, 62, such that the source(s) are scanned on to the detector at times when no object light falls on the detector. In the arrangement of Fig. 2 an aerial image is formed between the scanning prism and the detector, whereby sources on opposite sides of the object beam are independantly scanned. In the arrangement of Fig. 3 (not shown) the aerial image is notionally within the scanning prism whereby both sources are simultaneously scanned on to the detector. A transmissive shield may protect the source(s) against the draught of the scanner. The system is intended for I.R. image scanning wherein the sources control absolute level and gain. A block circuit is given. Arrangements with up to four reference sources are described.
