Abstract

1470990 Packaging in aseptic conditions ZIRISTOR AB 8 Aug 1974 [24 Aug 1973] 34996/74 Heading B8C In an apparatus for packaging under aseptic conditions comprising a conveyer belt 2 which is adapted to hold containers 1<SP>1</SP>, 1 to be filled and which co-operates with a tunnel 4 to define a sterile space 5 in which are arranged container filling and closing devices 12, 13, a device 11 for spraying high energy electrons to sterilize the containers is provided within the space 5 or at the location whereat the containers enter said space. The conveyer belt may include openings 3 or recesses for holding the containers. The edges of the openings are bevelled to match the taper of the containers which are frusto-conical in shape. Downwardly and inwardly inclined portions (32), Fig. 2 (not shown), of the longitudinal side walls of the tunnel 4 seal with downfolded longitudinal edges (34), Fig. 2 (not shown), of the conveyer belt 2 or with longitudinal sealing members (33), Fig. 2 (not shown), on the conveyer belt. The containers are closed by heat-sealing a web 15 to the containers. The web 15 is introduced into the space 5 after passing through a vat 17 of sterilizing and/or washing liquid and past an air doctor blade device 19, liquid absorption and heating devices 20, 21, an ultra-violet irradiation device 25 and an electron spraying device 26. The entrances and exits to the space 5 are protected by devices 8, 9, 23 and 24 which prevent the surrounding atmosphere entering the chamber. Such devices may include an electron spraying device, a sterile air curtain, a liquid curtain made up of finely divided hydrogen peroxide or alcohol particles or a sealing member. The pressure in the chamber may be maintained at a value above atmospheric pressure. The closure web 15 is severed between individual containers by a knife 28 which also produces a tab 29 in the closure.
