Description

[0001] (0001) The present invention relates generally to a modular outdoor kitchen, which substantially is made of metal.
[0003] Background art
[0004] (0002) Outdoor kitchens are more and more popular and are often associated with grilling and preparations of food such as meat and vegetables. Depending on different needs, common functions/equipment of outdoor kitchens are grill function, fresh water in combination with a sink, surfaces for preparation of food and for storing kitchen tools etc., like shelves, hangers, drawers etc. Known solutions of outdoor kitchens are very expensive and not very modular, why a user must think through the investment decision very thorough, including which functions is a must and can be afforded, and then take a decision of the "size" and functionality. Not seldom, the outdoor cooking interest grows from one season to another, and the functions needed over time may therefore vary. This may lead to expensive upgrades or complete exchange of the outdoor kitchen, since a more "cost-careful" start setup may no longer meet the needs developed over time. Existing outdoor kitchens are not modular in a way which easily may be expanded with new functionality in a cost-efficient way.
[0006] Summary of invention
[0007] (0003) An object of the present invention is to overcome the above described problems.
[0009] (0004) According to an aspect, a modular outdoor kitchen is disclosed. The modular outdoor kitchen comprises a support structure, which comprises leg parts, extending in a substantial vertical direction and connector parts, extending in a substantial horizontal direction, referring to a using position of the modular outdoor kitchen. The using position is normally as free standing with the leg parts on the ground surface. The leg parts and connector parts are arranged for fixed connection to each other to form the support structure. The modular outdoor kitchen further comprises a top frame, which is arranged for fixed connection on top of the support structure, wherein the support structure is arranged to support the top frame. This means that, in the using position of the modular outdoor kitchen, the support structure arranged below the top frame and supports the same. The modular outdoor kitchen further comprises at least one primary accessory, which primary accessory is a grill. The top frame is arranged as one single part of metal, arranged with at least one receiving opening, which receiving opening is arranged to receive the primary accessory, wherein the primary accessory is introducible into the at least one receiving opening of the top frame (in direction from above referring to the using position). The top frame comprises a continuous top surface, which is arranged at an uppermost first level of the top frame, wherein the top frame faces away from the support structure (i.e. facing upwards referring to the using position of the outdoor kitchen), and the top surface surrounds the at least one receiving opening, like a frame. The top frame further comprises a support edge, which is arranged at a lower second level, which second level is arranged below the first level of the of the top frame (referring to the using position of the outdoor kitchen), wherein the support edge extends at least along parts of the at least one receiving opening. This means that the support edge may be a continuous edge which extends around the at least one opening, or distributed edges around the opening, such that at least two support edges are arranged at opposite sides of the at least one opening. The support edge is arranged to support the primary accessory when it is positioned into the at least one receiving opening.
[0011] (0005) Such a solution provides a modularity in an easy and flexible manner, since the top frame comprises a support edge arranged to support the primary accessory, wherein it is easy to position the primary accessory into the at least one receiving opening, in which it is supported by the edge, without any further need of tools and fastening means. The primary accessory, which is adapted to fit perfectly into the receiving opening of the top frame and is dimensionally coordinated with the support edge, rests on the at least one support edge and remains into the opening of the frame by its own weight. It is easy to start up the outdoor kitchen "journey" with this "basic module", which comprises the support structure and the top frame with the opening, and to equip it with one primary accessory (or more, depending on the number of receiving openings), for example a sink. If the top frame for example has two receiving openings, which preferably is the standard setup of the top frame, one can start with for example a sink (and maybe freshwater tap) in one opening and a lid over the other opening, to have a basic version of your outdoor kitchen. If the outdoor cooking interest grows over time, maybe the next step is to complement with a grill, wherein the sink or the lid may be exchanged, and this without any tool. One option is of course to buy a second setup of the basic module comprising the support structure and the top frame, wherein the outdoor kitchen may comprise two basic modules, one with a freshwater tap, sink and lid, and one with the grill and for example a lid.
[0013] (0006) The primary accessory comprises that the top-level part is arranged at a third level of the primary accessory, wherein outer dimensions of the top-level part are dimensionally coordinated with inner dimensions of the at least one receiving opening of the top frame, such that the top-level part fits into the receiving opening of the top frame. The primary accessory further comprises an edge-level part, arranged at a fourth level of the primary accessory, which fourth level is arranged below the third level of the primary accessory (relating to the using position of the modular outdoor kitchen). The support edge of the top frame is arranged to support the edge-level part of the primary accessory when the primary accessory is positioned into the at least one receiving opening. By that, the primary accessory, such as a grill, a lid, a sink or the like, is to be positioned into the opening where it is held in position vertically, only by being supported by the support edge, and horizontally, by the dimensionally coordination between the primary accessory and the receiving opening of the top frame. A simple and cost effective solution which also provides a modularity which is easy to manage without any tools.
[0015] (0007) The grill comprises at least one control device arranged to control the grilling intensity (for example controlling gas flow to a gas grill or a level of the grill grates of the grill). The at least one control device is arranged on a front plate of the grill, wherein the front plate protrudes in direction away from the grill, towards a front side of the modular outdoor kitchen, which front side faces a user of the outdoor kitchen. The front plate comprises an upper edge arranged at a distance below the uppermost third level of the of the grill (the primary accessory). This enables that the grill is kept as one unit including the at least one control device, and that it is possible to introduce the grill into the at least one opening of the top frame, by first introducing the "front plate-side" into the opening with a slightly leaning grill, and the continue to introduce the grill into the opening to the supported position on the support edge. In the supported position, which is when the grill is installed in its using position in the modular outdoor kitchen, the front plate and the control/controls protrudes towards the user and is "ready for use". Of course, extra details, like a cover plate, control knobs and other "design" parts, may be installed after the grill is mounted to the support frame, but the grill may be bought and delivered more or less as one part ready for use.
[0017] (0008) According to an embodiment, the top frame is rectangular and comprises two parallel long sides (front side and back side), each with a first length, and two parallel short sides (left and right side), each with a second length, wherein the first length is greater than the second length. The at least one receiving opening of the top frame is centrally positioned between the first long side and a second long side of the top frame, such that the opening is centrally positioned in the depth direction (i.e. in the direction of the length of the short sides). This enables that the modular outdoor kitchen is reversible, in other words, it doesn’t matter which is the front side or the back side, wherein a total freedom in arranging the kitchen is achieved.
[0019] (0009) According to an embodiment, the third level of the primary accessory is aligned with the uppermost first level of the top frame, when the primary accessory is positioned into the at least one receiving opening. By that, a very smooth and nice looking, almost continuous upper surface of the outdoor kitchen is achieved, which also is easy to keep clean, since the top-level part of the primary accessory fits very well (precise) into the opening of the top frame.
[0020] (0010) According to an embodiment, the front plate of the grill aligns with a front level of the front side of the modular outdoor kitchen. This to enable a smooth design which looks good and is easy to keep clean.
[0022] (0011) According to an embodiment, the grill is a gas grill.
[0024] (0012) According to an embodiment, the grill is a charcoal grill.
[0026] (0013) According to a not claimed embodiment, the primary accessory comprises a sink.
[0028] (0014) According to a not claimed embodiment, the primary accessory comprises a lid.
[0030] (0015) By having many different primary accessories, all fitting the at least one opening of the top frame, the modular outdoor kitchen is easy to expand and change over time. This differs from known outdoor kitchens where all functions must be chosen from start, which is expensive and may stop an interested customer from starting with its interest for outdoor cooking. The inventive outdoor kitchen provides a cheap start kit, which then is easy to upgrade over time, which lowers the start cost and increases the possibility to start growing the interest of outdoor cooking.
[0032] (0016) According to an embodiment, the top frame is arranged with two receiving openings. A standard setup may be with two openings, wherein it is easy to combine two primary accessories, one per opening.
[0034] (0017) According to an embodiment, the support structure further is arranged to support at least one secondary accessory, by that the at least one of the leg parts and the connector parts of the support structure comprises at least one hole or slot, arranged to receive a fastening device, for fixation of the secondary accessory to the support structure. By that, the outdoor kitchen may be complemented with a lot of other "peripheral" equipment, which may be
[0035] wanted/needed.
[0036] (0018) According to an embodiment, the secondary accessory comprises a shelf arranged on brackets, which are arranged for fixed connection of the secondary accessory by the fastening device to the at least one hole or slot of the support structure.
[0038] (0019) According to an embodiment, the secondary accessory comprises a back piece arranged for fixed connection of the secondary accessory by the fastening device to the at least one hole or slot of the support structure. The back piece typically may carry other shelves, hooks for kitchen tools etc.
[0040] (0020) The support frame may of course be arranged for cabins and drawers and other common kitchen parts/accessories.

[0058] Description of embodiments
[0059] (0029) In the following, a detailed description of a modular outdoor kitchen according to the invention, is disclosed in detail, in respect of embodiments and in reference to the accompanying drawings. All examples herein should be seen as part of general description and therefore possible to combine in any way in general terms.
[0061] (0030) Fig. 1a is an isometric view of a modular outdoor 1 kitchen, according to the invention, which modular outdoor 1 comprises a support structure 10 and a top frame 20. Fig. 1b is a top view of the top frame 20 of Fig. 1a and Fig. 1c is a zoomed view of a left side of the support structure 10 and top frame 20 of Fig. 1a.
[0062] (0031) The modular outdoor kitchen 1 comprises a number of main parts, namely the support structure 10, the top frame 20 and at least one primary accessory 30, 40, 50. The support structure 10 comprises leg parts 11, which extend in a substantial vertical direction, and connector parts 12 which extend in a substantial horizontal direction and in a substantial vertical direction, referring to a using position of the modular outdoor kitchen 1. The using position is preferably as free standing on a ground surface, which preferably is substantially horizontal. To cope with minor irregularities, the leg parts 11 may comprise adjustable foots. The leg parts 11 and connector parts 12 are arranged for fixed connection to each other to form the support structure 10, typically fastening devices, like screws are used to connect the leg parts 11 and connector parts 12 to each other, to form the support structure 10. The top frame 20 is arranged for fixed connection on top of the support structure 10, preferably by fastening devices, like screws or the like, and the support structure 10 is arranged to support the top frame 20. The top frame 20 is arranged as one single part of metal, with a smooth and nice continuous top surface 23. The top frame 20 is arranged with at least one receiving opening 21, 22 arranged to receive the primary accessory 30, 40, 50, wherein the primary accessory 30, 40, 50 is introducible into the at least one receiving opening 21, 22 of the top frame 20. In the embodiment of Fig. 1a-b, two receiving openings 21, 22 are arranged in the top frame 20. The continuous top surface 23 is arranged at an uppermost first level 20a of the top frame 20 (see Fig. 1c), wherein the top surface 23 faces away from the support structure 10. The top surface 23 surrounds the at least one receiving opening 21, 22, in this embodiment, surrounds the two receiving openings 21, 22. The top frame 20 further comprises a support edge 24, which is visible in Fig. 1c, and which is arranged at a lower second level 20b of the top frame 20, which second level 20b is arranged below the first level 20a of the of the top frame 20. In the preferred embodiment, the support edge 24 extends like a continuous edge along the receiving opening/s 21, 22, but it could alternatively extend at least along parts of the receiving opening/s 21, 2. The support edge 24 is arranged to support the primary accessory 30, 40, 50 when positioned into the at least one receiving opening 21, 22.
[0064] (0032) In the preferred embodiment shown in Figs. 1a-c, the top frame 20 is rectangular and comprises two parallel long sides 23a, 23b, each with a first length Li, and two parallel short sides 23c, 23d, each with a second length l_2, wherein the first length Li is greater than the second length l_2. The receiving openings 21, 22 of the top frame 20 are centrally positioned between the first long side 23a and a second long side 23b of the top frame 20. This means that the modular outdoor kitchen 1 is reversible, in other words, it doesn’t matter which is the front side or the back side, wherein a total freedom in arranging the kitchen is achieved. At least, this option is available before any further side covers 15 are attached to the support structure 10.
[0066] (0033) Fig. 2 is an isometric view of a modular outdoor kitchen 1 with an exploded view of a primary accessory 30 which in the embodiment is a gas grill 30. Of course, the grill may be a charcoal grill, since the overall design of these two types of grilles substantially is very similar. The primary accessory 30, 40, 50, (i.e., the grill 30 in this embodiment), comprises a top-level part 33, which is arranged at a third level 30a of the grill 30, and outer dimensions of the top-level part 33 are dimensionally coordinated with inner dimensions of the receiving opening 21, 22 of the top frame 20, such that the top-level part 33 fits into the receiving opening 21, 22 of the top frame 20. The primary accessory/the grill 30 further comprises an edge-level part 34, arranged at a fourth level 30b of the primary accessory/grill 30, which fourth level 30b is arranged below the third level 30a. The support edge 24 of the top frame 20 is arranged to support the edgelevel part 34 of the primary accessory/the grill 30, when positioned into the receiving opening 21, 22. Preferably, the third level 30a of the primary accessory/the grill 30 is aligned with the uppermost first level 20a of the top frame 20, when the primary accessory/the grill 30 is positioned into the receiving opening 21, 22. Thus a "flush" surface is achieved since the top-level part 33 of the grill 30 and the continuous top surface 23 of the top frame 20 aligns, wherein it is also easy to clean the surfaces. The grill comprises a tiltable grill lid 31 with a handle 32, at least one, but preferably more than one, control device/s 35, which are arranged to control the grilling intensity, for example the level of a grill grid or the gas flow. The control devices 35 are arranged on a front plate 36 of the grill 30, which front plate 36 protrudes like a cover in direction away from the grill 30, towards a front side 2 of the modular outdoor kitchen 1, which front side 2 faces a user of the outdoor kitchen 1. The front plate 36 comprises an upper edge 37, which is arranged at a distance d below the third level 30a of the grill 30. This distance d is dimensionally coordinated with the thickness of the top frame 20, wherein the protruding front plate/cover 36 protrudes out of or in line through/with a front opening 19, or at least such that it substantially aligns with a front level 2a of the front side 2 of the support structure 10, to be reachable for the user of the grill 30. To provide a nice and smooth look, the grill 30 further comprises a front 38, which fits the front opening 19 of the support structure 10 and one cover plate 39a per control device 35 is screwed to the front 38 and a control knob 39b per control device 35 is snapped to the control device 35, i.e., to regulator pin of the control device 35. Two lifting hooks 70 are used to lift the grill 30 when positioning it into the receiving opening 21, 22.
[0068] (0034) Fig. 3a-d are isometric views showing the assembly of the gas grill 30 into one opening 22 of the top frame 20 of the inventive outdoor kitchen 1. The grill 30 is lifted by the lifting hooks 70 and is introduced into the opening 22 of the top frame 20, in a slightly forward-leaning position, such that the front plate/cover 36 is introduced first (see Fig. 3a). This enables the grill 30 to fit into the opening 20 and the front plate 36 to protrude out towards the front opening 19 of the support structure 10. Since the upper edge 37 of the front plate 36 is arranged at the distance d below the third level 30a of the grill 30, the front plate 36 avoids contacting the top frame 20 during assembly of the grill, and the distance d preferably is dimensionally coordinated with the dimensions of the front opening 19 of the support structure 10, such that it fits centrally in the front opening 19.
[0069] (0035) Then, when the grill 30 is positioned into the opening, the front 38 is attached to the front plate 36 by means of screws, magnet or the like (see Fig. 3a). Then, one cover plate 39a per control device 35 is screwed to the front 38 (see Fig. 3c) and a control knob 39b per control device 35 is snapped or in another way fixed to the control device 35/ a regulator pin of the control device 35 (see Fig. 3d). Thus, the grill 30 is mounted without any other tools than the lifting hooks 70 but it is possible to lift the grill 30 as it is, without the special lifting hooks 70 as well. Of course, a screwdriver is used to mount the front 38 and the cover plates 39. The grill 30 rests on the support frame 24 of the top frame 20 and no fixation means are used and the grill 30 stays in position only by its own weight and the perfect fit into the opening 22. It is very easy to change position of the grill 30 to another opening 21, 22 of the top frame 20, by dismounting it in the opposite way.
[0071] (0036) Fig. 4a-b are isometric views showing the assembly of a primary accessory 30, 40, 50 in the form of a lid 50 and a secondary accessory 60 in the form of a shelf 61, to the top frame 20 respective to the support structure 10 of the inventive outdoor kitchen 1. The lid/lids 50 are in the same way arrangeable into the receiving openings 21,22 of the top frame 20, one lid 50 per opening 21, 22 and the respective lid 50 comprises a top-level part 53, which is arranged at a third level 50a of the primary accessory/lid 50, and outer dimensions of the top-level part 53 are dimensionally coordinated with inner dimensions of the receiving opening 21, 22 of the top frame 20, such that the top-level part 53 fits into the receiving opening 21, 22 of the top frame 20. The primary accessory/the lid 50 further comprises an edge-level part 54, arranged at a fourth level 50b of the primary accessory/lid 50, which fourth level 50b is arranged below the third level 50a. The support edge 24 of the top frame 20 is arranged to support the edgelevel part 54 of the primary accessory/the lid 50, when positioned into the receiving opening 21, 22. Preferably, the third level 50a of the primary accessory/the lid 50 is aligned with the uppermost first level 20a of the top frame 20, when the primary accessory/the lid 50 is positioned into the receiving opening 21, 22. Thus a "flush" surface is achieved since the top-level part 53 of the lid 50 and the continuous top surface 23 of the top frame 20 aligns, wherein it is easy to clean the surfaces.
[0072] (0037) The support structure 10 is arranged to support at least one secondary accessory 60, which in Figs. 4a-b is exemplified by the shelf 61. This is possible by that the leg parts 11 and the connector parts 12 of the support structure 10 may comprise one or several holes 13 or slots 13, which are arranged to receive a fastening device, like a screw or the like, for fixation of the secondary accessory 60 to the support structure 10. The secondary accessory 60 in the form of the shelf 61 is fixedly (and removably) arranged on brackets 62, which are arranged for fixed connection by fastening devices to the holes 13 or slot 13 of the support structure 10. The shelves 61 may be arranged on any side of the outdoor kitchen 1, depending on where the user wants them. The holes 13 of the support structure 10 may also be used for connecting modules together, one module of support structure 10 connected to another module of support structure 10. Preferably upper surfaces of the secondary accessories 60 aligns with the top surface 23 of the top frame 20.
[0074] (0038) Fig. 5-6 are isometric views showing two different setups of the modular outdoor kitchen 1 according to the invention, each setup is equipped with a number of primary and secondary accessories 30, 40, 50, 60. In Fig. 5, the modular outdoor kitchen 1 is built up with two support structures 10, where the left one has one large (wide) receiving opening 21 in the top frame 20, in which a wide gas grill 30 is arranged in the same way as described above, and the right support structure 10 is connected perpendicular to the left support structure 10 and comprises two receiving openings 21, 22 in which one lid 50 per opening is arranged, in the same way as described above. The kitchen 1 is also equipped with shelves 61 attached to the right support structure 10. This example shows ho a user may use the modularity to expand/develop its outdoor kitchen 1, and equip it as wanted or afforded and according to which setup fits the location where the kitchen 1 is to be positioned.
[0076] (0039) In Fig. 6, the modular outdoor kitchen 1 is built up with three different support structures 10, a narrow left "cabinet" type, a narrow middle one comprising a gas grill 30 and wide right "cabinet" type. The left "cabinet" type comprises side walls 15, a lid 50 on top, a drawer 16 and three shelves arranged in the "cabinet", the middle one comprises the gas grill 30, and a wide right "cabinet" type comprises a sink 40, a water tap 41, a lid 50, a drawer 16 and cabinet doors 18. The sink 40 is a first type of accessory 30, 40, 50 which sink 40 fits into the receiving opening 22, in the same way as other described first accessories 30, 40, 50 and the sink comprises a top-level part 43, which is arranged at a third level of the primary accessory/sink 40, and outer dimensions of the top-level part 43 are dimensionally coordinated with inner dimensions of the receiving opening 21, 22 of the top frame 20, such that the top-level part 43 fits into the receiving opening 21, 22 of the top frame 20. The primary accessory/the sink 40 further comprises an edge-level part (not visible), arranged at a fourth level of the primary accessory/sink 40, which fourth level is arranged below the third level. The support edge 24 of the top frame 20 is arranged to support the edge-level part of the primary accessory/the sink 40, when positioned into the receiving opening 21, 22.
