Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for producing carbon comprising the steps of: providing lignin having a total metal content of less than 200 ppm to heat treatment at one or more temperatures in the range of from 300 °C and 1500°C to obtain carbon. The present indention also relates to carbon having a total metal content below 800 ppm; a negative electrode for a secondary battery comprising said carbon as active material; and use of said carbon as active material in a negative electrode of a secondary battery.
