Description

lO BEVERAGE CAPSULE PACKAGE COMPRISING AN RFID/NFC TAG Technical field In accordance with the preamble of claim l, the presentinvention relates to a beverage capsule package forbeverage capsules comprising: - a box for storing coffee capsules, which capsulescomprising aluminum metal, the box comprising a firstend, a second end and four sidewalls, and - a lid for closing the first end, the lid having an outside and an inside.
In the following of the application, the term RFID/NFCtag will be frequently used. In this context, this termconcerns either an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag or an NFC (Near Field Communication) tag.
A beverage capsule is a single-serve beverage containerthat is used to make a portion of beverage. The beveragecapsule prepares enough beverage for a single portion ina beverage capsule machine. The beverage is for examplecoffee, espresso, tea, chocolate etc. The beveragecapsules, in this context, having aluminium metal in their structure.A beverage capsule package, in this context, is a packagefor storing and/or transporting several beverage capsules.
Background - Problem RFID/NFC tagging of beverage capsule packages can providesignificant benefits for manufacturer of such products.
Benefits could include track and trace in supply chain, lO inventory process improvements, electronic articlesurveillance, automated payment process, consumer engagement and many others.
However, there is a technical problem as many beveragecapsules utilize aluminum metal in their construction. The capsules are loosely packed into beverage capsulepackages and can therefore move inside the package fromone end to the other end. When the RFID/NFC tag islocated close to the aluminum capsule, the capsule will influence the performance of the RFID/NFC transponder.
A typical solution to such problem is to add anadditional ferrite layer to the RFID/NFC tagconstruction, as a layer between the transponder antennaconductor and the aluminum capsule. Such solutions arewidely available and known as ferrite is a well-known RFisolator. However, such a solution has some problems ifit is applied onto a beverage capsule package. To startwith, ferrite is an expensive material and a low costitem, such as a beverage capsule package, cannot justifyuse of such an expensive material. Moreover, in order tofunction properly, the ferrite layer must be relativethick, which also makes the tag relative thick. Finally, the thick RFID/NFC tag on the side wall of the packagemight cause jamming in the beverage capsule packing process.
Object of invention An object with the present invention is to present abeverage capsule package which solve the above mentionedproblems with RFID/NFC tags in beverage capsule packages with capsules containing aluminium metal. lO Summary of the invention In accordance of the invention, and the characterizingportion of claim l, the package further comprising anRFID/NFC tag which is arranged on the inside of the lidand that the RFID/NFC tag is located at a predetermineddistance away from an adjacent beverage capsule, whichpredetermined distance is secured by a distance layer which is arranged over the RFID/NFC tag.
Detailed description of the invention In the following the invention will be described more in detail with reference to figure l and 2.
Figure l discloses a tube-like beverage capsule package, where the beverage capsules are arranged loosely, in line, lengthwise inside the package.
Figure 2 discloses a cube-like beverage capsule package, the beverage capsules may be are arranged freely inside the package.
The package l comprising a box 2 having a first end 3, asecond end 4 and four lengthwise sidewalls 5 for storingbeverage capsules 6 inside the package. The first end 3faces against the second end 4 and the sidewalls 5 arearranged between the two ends 3, 4. The beverage capsules 6 comprising aluminium metal.
The package l further comprising a lid 7 for openingand/or closing the first end 3, the lid having an outside 8 and an inside 9, which inside 9 faces away from the outside 8 and faces against the first end 3 in a closed position.
The package further comprising an RFID/NFC tag 10 whichis arranged on the inside 9 of the lid 7 and that theRFID/NFC tag 10 is located at a predetermined distanceaway from an adjacent beverage capsule 6, whichpredetermined distance is secured by a distance layer 11which is arranged over the RFID/NFC tag 10 on the inside9. Hence, the RFID/NFC tag 10 is arranged between the inside 9 and the distance layer 11.
The distance layer 11 is preferably made of a dielectric material with a relative permittivity below 4.
A dielectric foam has been especially good as a distancelayer. A preferred foam is a plastic foam whichcomprising polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene or similar.
Other suitable distance layer materials are a piece paperboard or corrugated board.
The thickness of the distance layer is at least 2 mm and preferably in the range 3-10 mm.
The thick distance layer 11 will create a “buffer”between the RFID/NFC transponder and the beverage capsulemetal. This predetermined distance will secure that thealuminium in the beverage capsules do not interfere with the RFID/NFC tag and the tag will function sufficiently. lO Yet another benefit with the present invention is thatthe position of the RFID/NFC tag, on the inside of thelid, won't cause any jamming in the beverage capsule packing process. Moreover, the position on the inside will protect the RFID/NFC tag during transportation.
In the foregoing, the invention has been described on thebasis of some specific embodiments. It is appreciated, however, that other embodiments and variants are possiblewithin the scope of the following claims. For example itis appreciated that the package not necessarily have tobe tube-like or cube-like formed. The skilled personrealises that other box typed packages with a lid arepossible which has a first end, a second end and lid that closes the first end.
