Description

SEALING LIST, WITH A GROOVE AND A SEALING STRIP, FOR A PARTSURROUNDING A WALL, AND USE THEREOF Technical FieldThe present invention concerns a sealing list for use in connection With openings of a Wall or other partition, such as floor or roof made of concrete.
BackgroundWalls of building of different kinds norrnally have openings for receiving cables, pipes and/or Wires. Said openings are often to be sealed in some Way, againstintrusion or extrusion of Water, gases, dust etc. The sealing may be needed also beforereceiving of any cables, pipes and/or Wires. One solution for receiving cables, pipesand/or Wires is to have a number of modules inside a frame. The frame is then to besealed against the Wall or other partition of concrete. Each module norrnally has a blindof some kind, Which is to be removed When a cable, pipe and/or Wire is to be received inthe module. Thereby a frame With a number of modules may seal the opening beforeany cable, pipe or Wire is routed through the opening. In other cases the opening iscovered by using a cover plate.
Even though a concrete surface can be relatively smooth, it is often rough andcontains cracks. To seal a frame or other part against a concrete Wall it is known to usedifferent types of sealing compounds. Even though they often Works very Well, theyoften do not Work satisfactory When exposed to high pressure. Seal compounds orsealants that sWell When exposed to Water Will take some time to react, Whereby some Water may be let through before sealing is achieved.
Summa In view of the above, there is a need for sealing solutions that Will seal againsthigh Water pressures and/or high gas pressures and When used at concrete surfaces.
According to one aspect of the invention, a sealing list is provided for a part tobe placed surrounding an opening of a Wall or other partition made of concrete. Thesealing list is placed at and surrounding the opening of the Wall or other partition. Thesealing list comprises a profile and one or more sealing strips. The profile givesmechanical support for the one or more sealing strips. The one or more sealing strips are placed in grooves of the profile. The profile has one groove for each sealing strip. The one or more sealing strips are adapted to be facing the wall or other partition made of concrete.
According to another aspect of the invention, use of the sealing list is provided.
The sealing list is placed around an opening of a wall or other partition. The sealing listis compressed between the wall or other partition and a part, such as a frame, to beplaced at the opening, by means of screw joints.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the sealing strips of the sealinglist are made of butyl or a sealant in order to give a good sealing effect.

Detailed DescriptionIn different partitions it is known to arrange frames being a part of a system for a sealed transit of cables, pipes and/or wires, in an opening of some kind of a partition, such as a wall, roof or floor. The general system shown in Fig. 1 comprises a frame 1having an inner opening 14 and inside of said inner opening 14 of the frame 1 a numberof compressible modules 3 are received together with a compression unit 4 and stayplates 5. Each module 3 is to be placed around a cable, pipe or wire. As is known, whenthe cables, pipes and/or wires have been routed through the frame 1 and the modules 3have been placed around them, the compression unit 4 is activated. Thereby themodules are compressed in one direction and will be pressed inwards toward the cable, pipe and/or wires and outwards against the frame 1 and against each other. The functionof the stay plates 5 are mainly to keep the modules 3 in place inside the frame 1.
A cover plate is often placed covering the opening of a wall or other partitionbefore mounting of the frame and before any cables, pipes and/or wires are received.
The present invention is mainly developed for frames of systems for sealedtransit, which frames have a flange. In Figs. 2 and 3 one example of such a frame 1having a flange 2 is shown. The frame 1 has a central part def1ning an inner opening 14.The flange 2 is arranged perpendicular to the part of the frame 1 def1ning the inneropening 14. The flange 2 is arranged on the outside of the frame 1 and goes all the wayaround the frame 1. As shown in Fig. 3 the flange 2 is placed on one side, seen in thedirection of depth of the frame 1.
The outline of the sealing list 6 is norrnally adapted to the outline of the frame1 and/or the opening of the partition. If the frame has a rectangular outline, as in theshown embodiment, the sealing list 6 will be given a rectangular outline, as shown inFig. 4. If the frame has any outer outline, for instances circular, the sealing list 6 willnorrnally be given a corresponding outline.
For sealed mounting of the frame 1 a sealing list 6 is provided. In the shownembodiment the sealing list 6 has a rectangular outline with a rectangular centralopening. The sealing list 6 is to be placed surrounding an opening of a partition and theinner opening 14 of the frame 1. The sealing list 6 may be made as a continuous pieceor in several pieces. In some embodiments the sealing list 6 is made in one piece buthas a through cut, in order to be able to place the sealing list 6 around already installedcables, pipes and/or wires. The sealing list 6 comprises a profile 7 and one or moresealing strips 8. The profile 7 is norrnally made of rubber or TPE (therrnoplastic elastomer) and is to give mechanical support for each sealing strip 8. In the shown embodiment the mechanical support of the one or more sealing strips 8 is given by thechoice of material of the profile 7 and that the one or more sealing strips 8 are placed inone or more grooves of the profile 7. One groove is provided in the profile 7 for eachsealing strip 8. The sealing strip 8 is norrnally made of butyl. In other embodiments acommonly used sealant is used as the sealing strip 8. The materials used for both theprofile 7 and the sealing strip 8, may be varied due to different demands, i.e.temperature, chemical resistant, fire, blast load and cleanroom. By the mechanicalsupport of the profile 7 the sealing strip 8 is prevented from being pushed away due tohigh water pressure or high gas pressure.
A seal of rubber or TPE without any sealing strip 8 of butyl or sealant wouldseal well against the flange 2 but not necessarily well against concrete. Thus, the sealingstrip 8 or strips 8 is provided in order to give a good sealing effect also against theconcrete.
In the example of mounting shown in Figs. 6 to 8 a sealing system comprisinga frame 1 is placed at a through opening 10 of a concrete wall 9. Only a flange 2 of theframe 1 is shown in Fig. 6. The sealing list 6 is placed between the flange 2 and theconcrete wall 9 with the sealing strip 8 facing the concrete wall 9. The frame 1 isfastened to the concrete wall 9 by means of a screw 11 fastened in an opening of theconcrete wall 9, which screw 11 protrudes outside the concrete wall 9. The screw 11goes through an opening of the flange 2 and has a threaded outer end, for receiving a nut12. For mounting of the frame 1 a number of screws 11 are arranged fastened in theconcrete wall 9 and going through openings of the flange 2 of the frame 1.
By tightening the nuts 12 on the screws 11 fastened in the concrete wall 9, thesealing list 6 is compressed, whereby the profile 7 and the sealing strip 8 are deforrnedas they are pressed between the concrete wall 9 and the flange 2. The sealing strip 8 willbe pressed into any cracks or other unevenness on the surface of the concrete wall 9, bymeans of the pressure on the profile 7 as the nuts are tightened. The opening 10 of theconcrete wall 9 is thereby sealed off from the surrounding environment. In theembodiment as shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the sealing list 6 is placed inside the screws 11.
As indicated in Fig. 8 the sealing list 6 can also be placed outside the screws11. With the sealing list 6 placed outside the screws 11, a sealing washer 13 is placedbetween the nut 12 and the flange 2 at each screw 11.
In other embodiments other types of screw j oints are used. Independent of theactual type of screw joint, the sealing list 6 is to be compressed by tightening of the screw joint.
The sealing list 6 is also to be used in a similar way with a cover plate. In thatcase the sealing list 6 will be compressed between the cover and the wall 9 or otherpartition.
As indicated in Figs. 9a - 9d the sealing strip 8 of the sealing lists 6 may havedifferent sizes and forrns and may be placed at different locations of the profile 7. Theprofiles 7 have one or more grooves for receiving one or more sealing strips 8. In theembodiment of Fig. 9a one sealing strip 8 is shown, which is rectangular as seen incross section and is placed on the side to be facing the concrete wall 9. In theembodiment of Fig. 9b two circular sealing strips 8 as seen in cross section are placedon the side to be facing the concrete wall 9. In the embodiment of Fig. 9c two circularsealing strips 8 as seen in cross section are placed on the side to be facing the concretewall 9 and one sealing strip 8 is placed on the side to be facing the flange 2 of the frame1. Placement of a sealing strip 8 also on the side to be facing the flange 2 of the frame 1is beneficial if the flange 2 is uneven, for instance if the frame 1 is made in severalpieces and have one or more j oints. In Fig. 9d one relatively large, circular sealing strip8 as seen in cross section is placed on the side to be facing the concrete wall 9.
The sealing list 6 may have to seal against pressure either form the inside or theoutside or altemately from both sides.
The profile 15 of the embodiment of Fig. 10 differ from the previouslydescribed profile in that it has a slot 16 on two opposite sides. As seen in cross sectionthe slots 16 are arranged on the sides of the profile 15 adapted to be facing neither theflange 2 of the frame nor the wall 9 nor other partition of concrete. The slots 16norrnally goes along all the length of the profile 15. As indicated above the sealing list 6may be made of several parts or have a through cut to facilitate mounting aroundalready installed cables, pipes and/or wires. To keep the sealing list 6 together as oneunit, join pins 17 are placed in the grooves 16 of the profile 15 in adjacent parts of thesealing list 6. Also screw hooks 18 may be placed in the grooves 16 of the profile 15.One part of each screw hook 18 is to be placed around a screw 11 or other fasteningmeans. By means of the screw hooks 18 installation is facilitated in some cases, forinstance in that the sealing list 6 can be hanged on the screws 11 during a verticalinstallation. The screw hooks 18 can also be used to straighten out the sealing list 6 if needed, especially for relatively long sealing lists 6.
