Description

Bag for ping-pong balls Technical field The present disclosure relates to a bag for ping-pong balls.
Background art Persons practicing the sport of ping-pong need to have a supply of ping-pong balls close at hand since the light-weight ping-pong balls often flies or bounces away after a successful strike of one or the players. To avoid unnecessary interruption to retrieve balls during competition or practice, the players therefore usually keep a few ping-pong balls in the pocket of their sport pants. However, a drawback with this practice is that the pingpong balls in the pocket of the person may impede his or hers movement during play. Moreover, there is only space for a few balls in the pocket pants so interruption of the game to retrieve balls cannot be fully avoided anyway.
There are various types of bags to hold objects that may be worn by a person. However, the design of these bags makes them unstable when worn by a person that makes sudden and powerful movements during ping-pong play. Also, the rather large openings of known bags does not ensure that small and light weight ping-pong balls are safely kept within the bag during ping-pong play and practice.
Thus, it is an object to of the present disclosure to provide an improved bag for holding ping-pong balls to be worn by a person during ping-pong play and practice. In particular, it is an object of the present disclosure to provide a bag for holding ping-pong balls which may be firmly supported on the back of the person wearing the bag. Moreover, it is an object of the present disclosure to provide a bag for holding ping-pong balls that secures the ping-pong balls within the bag and allows the wearer to easily retrieve ping-pong balls from the bag.
Summary of the disclosure According to the present disclosure at least one of the aforementioned objects is achieved by a bag 1 for holding ping-pong balls configured to be worn on the back of a person 2 comprising: - a top 10 with an opening 16 for ping-pong balls and a closed bottom 11 oriented along a longitudinal direction (y) - a front side 12 and a rear side 13 extending in a first lateral direction (x) between the top 10 and the bottom 11, and; - an attachment means 18, 19 for attaching the bag 1 to the body of a person 2, wherein the bag 1 is configured such that, when the bag 1 is worn on the back of a person 2, - the bag 1 extends in longitudinal direction (y) along the back of the person 1 wearing the bag 10 such that the person 2 may reach the opening 16, and such that; - the rear side 13 faces the back of the person 2 wearing the bag 1 and the front side 12 faces away from the back of the person 2, wherein the rear side 13 abut against the back of a person 2 wearing the bag 1, such that the bag 1 is supported in the first lateral direction (x) against the back of the person (2).
The main advantage of the bag for holding ping-pong balls according to the present disclosure is that the rear side of the bag is elongate and extends in lateral direction of the bag. Therefore, when the rear side of the bag is in supporting abutment with the back of the person wearing the bag good lateral support for the bag on the back of the person is provided. This in turn prevents the bag from swinging, or rotating, even in the case the person wearing the bag makes sudden and powerful movements during a ping-pong game.
Preferably, the rear side is flat, i.e. in the form of a flat sheet. This design may be achieved at low cost and fits a large amount of ping-pong players. According to another preferred alternative, the rear side is concave, which in turn provides for a tight fit and very good abutment with the back of the person wearing the bag.
The opening for ping-pong balls in the top of the bag is elongated and comprises first and second mutually facing elongated edges 16.1, 16.2 and resilient material 17 which is arranged adjacent the first and second elongated edges 16.1, 16.2 such that the first and second elongated edges 16.1, 16.2 are biased towards each other. This arrangement keeps the opening closed so that the ping-pong balls are prevented from falling out of the bag during play. However, the person wearing the bag may easily stick his hand through the opening to retrieve a ping-pong ball from the bag without having to manipulate closures such as cords or zippers.

Detailed description of embodiments The bag for ping-pong balls according to the present disclosure will now be described more fully hereinafter. The bag for ping-pong balls according to the present disclosure may however be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. Rather, these embodiments are provided by way of example so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the present disclosure to those persons skilled in the art. Same reference numbers refer to same elements throughout the description.
Figure 1 shows a bag 1 for holding ping-pong balls according to a first alternative of the present disclosure (in the following referred to as “the bag”). For purpose of reference it is to be noted that a ping-pong ball is spherical, has a diameter of ca 44 mm, weighs ca 2,7 g and is made of plastic material.
The bag 1 comprises a top 10 and closed bottom 11 which are oriented along a longitudinal direction y, i.e. along the vertical axis y. The top 10 and the bottom 11 are spaced apart from each other by a distance which defines the height h of the bag 1 (see figure 2) . The top 10 further comprises an opening 16 for receiving ping-pong balls which will be described further below. The bag 1 has further a front side 12 and a rear side 13 which extends between the top 10 and the closed bottom 11 of the bag. The front side 12 and the rear side 13 are connected to each other and to the closed bottom 11 and to the top 10 (i.e. to the cover 10.1) so that the front side 12, the rear side 13 and the closed bottom 11 form a container for receiving and holding ping-pong balls. A handle 20 is attached to the top 10. It is obvious that the front side 12, the rear side 13 and the optionally the closed bottom 11 and the top 10 of the bag are dimensioned such that the bag may receive and hold a desired number of ping-pong balls, for example 5 or 10 or 20 ping-pong balls.
The front side 12 and the rear side 13 extend in a first lateral direction x which is defined by the lateral axis x, which is orthogonal to the longitudinal axis y. The maximum extension of the front side 12 and the rear side 13 in first lateral direction x defines the width w of the bag 1 (see figure 2). The front side 12 and the rear side 13 are further spaced apart from each other in a second lateral direction z defined by the second lateral axis z which is orthogonal to both the longitudinal axis y and the first lateral axis x (see figure 1). The distance by which the front side 12 and the rear side 13 are spaced apart in the second lateral direction z defines the depth of bag.
It is appreciated that by “longitudinal and lateral direction” is meant any of the two directions of the respective longitudinal and lateral axes y and x and z.
The top 10 of the bag 1 comprises an opening 16 for receiving ping-pong balls. The opening is arranged and dimensioned such that a person wearing the bag may stick the hand through the opening 16. The opening 16 may thereby have different geometry, such as elongated, circular or lens-shaped or slit-shaped. It is appreciated that the opening is permanently arranged such that the person wearing the bag may stick the hand through the opening 16. Thus, the opening is free of locking means, for example zippers, that needs to be manipulated in order to open the opening 16. As shown in figure 1, the top 10 of the bag comprises a cover 10. 1 which comprises the opening 16 for ping-pong balls. The cover 10.1 extends in the second lateral direction z from the rear side 13 to the front side 12.
According to the present disclosure (see figures 1 and la), the top 10 of the bag 1 comprises a cover 10.1 which has an opening 16 for ping-pong balls. In the alternative shown in figure which is elongate and comprises a first and a second longitudinal and mutually facing elongated edges 16. 1, 16.2. The top 10 (i.e. the cover 10.1 further comprises resilient material 17 which is arranged adjacent the elongated edges 16.1, 16.2 and biases, i.e. forces, the elongated edges 16.1, 16.2 towards each other. That is, towards a closed position indicated by the dashed line. In the closed position, the mutually facing elongated edges 16.1, 16.2 are in contact with each other. In particular in the closed position, the mutually facing elongated edges 16.1, 16.2 are in non-locking contact with each other. Alternatively, the mutually facing elongated edges 16.1, 16.2 are at a distance from each other which is less than the diameter of a ping-pong ball. Preferably, the resilient material 17 is an elastic material such as a rubber material. More preferred the resilient material is a first and a second elastic ribbon 17 which are attached (e.g. by sewing) to the cover 10.1 adjacent the respective first and second longitudinal edges 16.1, 16.2 of the opening 16. In practice, the resilient material 17 stretches the cover 10.1 adjacent the first and second longitudinal edges 16.1, 16.2 so that the edges are biased, i.e. forced, towards each other. In the disclosed alternative, the cover 10.1 may be made of flexible material such as woven fabric or webbing and the opening 16 may formed by an elongated slit in the cover 10.1.
The bag 1 further comprises an attachment means 18.1, 18.2 for releasable attaching the bag 1 to the body of a person, In the embodiment shown in figure 1, the attachment means is a first and a second belt 18.1, 18.2 which respectively are attached by one end to the top 10 of the bag 1 and arranged to be wound around the body, e.g. the waist, of the person wearing the bag 1. Preferably, the attachment means 18.1, 18.2 are arranged such that they extend from the rear side 13 of the bag (i.e. from the longitudinal edges of rear side) to ensure that the rear side 13 abuts firmly against the back of the person wearing the bag. The free ends of the first and the second belt 18.1, 18.2 may be provided by a joining means 19, such as Velcro™ so that the free ends of the belts may be releasable attached to each other. The first and the second belt 18.1, 18.2 may further comprise a respective wing 18.3 (see figure 2), which extends from the rear side 13 of the bag 1, along a portion of the respective belt 18.1, 18.2 and towards the closed bottom 11 of the bag 1. The wings 18.3 increase the stability of the bag against the back of the person wearing the bag.
The bag 1 is configured to be worn on the back of person 2. This is an important feature of the present disclosure, since the bag is intended to supply a person practicing pingpong with balls. In this situation, the person wearing the bag needs to wear the bag on the back since the bag otherwise would engage the ping-pong table. Figure 4 shows a person 2 wearing the bag 1 according to the present disclosure on the back. According to the present disclosure, and shown in figure 4, the bag 1 is configured such that when the bag 1 is worn on the back of the person 2, the front side 12 of the bag is facing away from the back of the person 2 wearing the bag and the rear side 13 is facing the back of the person 2 wearing the bag 1. This may for example be achieved by arranging the attachment means 18.1, 18.2, so that they extend from the rear side 13 of the bag (see figure 1 and 2).
Moreover, since the bag is intended to supply the person wearing the bag with ping-pong balls, it is important that bag 1 is configured such that the person wearing the bag may reach the opening 16 in the top of the bag 1 with the hand and access the interior of the bag with the hand, through the opening 16. Configuration of the bag 1 in this regard maybe achieved by dimensioning the extension of the bag in longitudinal direction y, i.e. the height h of the bag, along the back of the person wearing the bag. For example by dimensioning the height h of the bag in accordance with standardized person sizes. The bag 1 may further be configured in this regard by the position of the attachment means 18.1, 18.2. The attachment means 18.1, 18.2 may thereby extend from to the top 10 ofthe bag. When the attachment means 18.1, 18.2 then are wound around the body of the person, e.g. around the stomach or waist, the top 10 of the bag will automatically be in suitable position to allow access to the opening 16 by the hand of the wearer of the bag..
Thus, to allow full access to the opening in the top of the bag, the bag is preferably configured to be worn on the lower half of the back of the person 2 wearing the bag. That is, in a region extending from the buttocks to the middle of the back of the person. The lower half of the back of a person may also include at least a portion of the buttocks of the person. Typically, the bag is dimensioned such its height h is less than the lower half of the back of the person wearing the bag. Moreover, the width of the bag is dimensioned such that it is equal to less than the width of the back of the person wearing the bag. It is thereby avoided that the bag impedes movement of the wearer of bag. Exemplary dimensions of the bag according to the present disclosure are height: 20 - 25 cm, width: 20 - 30 cm and depth: 15 - 20 cm.
The bag is further configured such that the rear side 13 abuts against the back of the person wearing the bag such that the bag 1 supported in lateral direction x against the back of the person. According to the present disclosure, this feature is achieved in that the rear side 13 is extended in lateral direction x. Figure 2 shows the rear side 13 of the bag 1. In the embodiment shown in figure 2, the rear side 13 of the bag thereby forms an abutment surface which extends over the width x of the bag 2. The extent of the abutment between the rear side 13 of the bag and the back of the person determines the degree of lateral support that may be achieved and may be influenced by the design of the rear side 13 and/or the front side 12 of the bag. In particular, the extent of abutment maybe influenced by the cross-sectional design of the bag. For example, in the embodiment of figure 1, the bag 1 is semi-circular in cross-section (i.e. straight rear side and arc-shaped front side 12) and the rear side 13 therefore extends over the entire maximum width of the bag 1. This is advantageously, since a large abutment area between the rear side and the back of the wearer of bag increases the lateral support of the bag on back of the person wearing it. In figure 3c, the bag 1 is polyhedral in cross-section, which results in a rearside 13 which extends over less than the maximum width of the bag and thus provides less lateral support. To ensure a sufficiently extent of abutment between the inner side 13 and the back of the person wearing the bag, it is preferred that the inner side 13 extends over at least half the maximum width of the bag 1. The extent of the abutment between rear side and the back of the person wearing the bag may also be influenced by the size of the bag, i.e. the height, width and depth.
In longitudinal direction y, the rear side 13 forms an abutment surface which extends from the top to the closed bottom of the bag 2.
It is also possible to influence the extent of the abutment between rear side and the back of the person wearing the bag by the design of the rear side 13. Figure 2 shows and embodiment in which the rear side 13 is be flat, i.e. extend parallel with the lateral axis x. Alternatively, as shown in figure 3b, the rear side 13 may be concave such that it forms a recess 14 which is facing the back of the person wearing the bag. However, also other designs of the rear side 13 are possible, for example the rear side may flat and concave. That, is one section of the rear side may be flat and another section may be concave.
It is appreciated that the rear side 13 should not be convex in direction of the back of the person wearing the bag, since this causes poor lateral support of the rear surface on the back of the person wearing the bag. Thus, the rear side 13 should be free of convexity in direction of the back of the person wearing the bag.
The bag 1 is preferably manufactured from light-weight fabric such as nylon. The front and the rear side may thereby by formed from one coherent sheet of fabric or from two or more separate sheets that have been joined together by sewing, gluing or welding. The rear side may be rigid to improve stability of the abutment with the back of the person wearing the bag.
Although a particular embodiment has been disclosed in detail this has been done for purpose of illustration only, and is not intended to be limiting. In particular it is contemplated that various substitutions, alterations and modifications may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
For example, the bag 1 may have different designs. Figure 3a shows a cross-sectional view of a bag 1 in which the rear side 13 is flat, i.e. have straight cross-section and the front side 12 is cylindrical, i.e. have a semi-circular cross-section. Figure 3b shows the aforementioned alternative in which the rear side 13 is concave and the front side is cylindrical, i.e. have a semi-circular cross-section. Figure 3c, shows an alternative in which the rear side 13 is flat, i.e. have straight cross-section and the front side 12 is polyhedral. Figure 3d, shows an alternative in which the rear side 13 is flat, i.e. have straight cross-section and the front side 12 is of rectangular cross-section.
It is further appreciated that features of the various alternatives disclosed here above may be combined.
