Description

ATTACK REPELLENT DEVICE Field of the invention The present invention relates to an attack repellent device.
Technical Background There are known devices for capturing suspected criminals. One such example is sasumata. There are also other similar such devices. The present invention, however, is directed to a device intended to repel a person more than to capture and lock the same. Known devices have a holding and locking property.
One aim of the present invention is to provide a device optimal to repel a person, e.g. a person threatening or attacking the person having the device. Summary of the invention The latter stated purpose above is achieved by an attack repellent device comprising a manoeuver unit comprising a rod, said attack repellent device also comprising a restraint crutch arranged at one end of the rod and having two crutch arms, said crutch also comprising an inner middle portion being cross sectional from one crutch arm to the other crutch arm, said inner middle portion functioning as a pressing portion.
As notable from above, the attack repellent device according to the present invention comprises a restraint crutch, said restraint crutch having both a restraining and repelling property with the crutch arms and the cross sectional inner middle pressing portion. A possible attacker is both repelled and restrained, however not captured and locked in the same way as with existing devices. This implies that the device according to the present invention is optimised for the intended use thereof. The device according to the present invention does not lock an attacker in the same way as known device, which in turn implies that the attack repellent device according to the present invention is safer to use. Moreover, the pressing portion according to the present invention also play an important role. This portion, which extends between both crutch arms at the rear part of the crutch, i.e. the start of the crutch, is used to continuously put pressure on a person intended to be restrained to keep that person at a safe distance and disables that person.
In addition to the sasumata device and similar devices, there are also other types of security tools. For instance, in US 2007/0184907 there is disclosed a security tool said to protect the user and take control of criminals simultaneously in crimes using a knife. The guard baton according to US 2007/0184907 has three detachable prongs, and comprises a guard stick and a three-pronged tip fixed to a tip of the guard stick. As may be understood from above, this guard baton differs from the present invention in several aspects. To give two important examples, the device according to 2007/0184907 is a baton and has a three-pronged tip and is also a guard baton. The present invention, however, is directed to an attack repellent device intended to restrain and repel an attacker, i.e. safe for both the user and possible attacker.
Specific embodiments of the invention Below specific embodiments of the present invention are disclosed. According to one specific embodiment of the present invention, the attack repellent device has at least two different operation states, one being in a compact carrying mode and one being in a full extended operation mode. This property according to the present invention implies that the device is suitable and simple to bring along for a user in a different way than in its full state operation. According to one specific embodiment of the present invention, the rod comprises at least two parts where one part is insertable in the other in a longitudinal direction so that the attack repellent device is telescopic. This telescopic property implies that the device is possible to carry in a compact state and also to extend when intended to be used to restrain a person.
According to yet another specific embodiment of the present invention, the attack repellent device comprises a front handle and a rear handle which are arranged cross sectional to the rod and extending from both sides of the rod, said front handle and rear handle being arranged at a distance between one another. The two handle feature possible according to the present invention implies a stable grip for the user, but at the same time provides the basis for a safe distance for the user to the attacker. This further implies that it is of interest to arrange the rear handle at or very close to the rear end of the entire rod and the front handle at a distance therefrom but at a safe distance from a person intended to restrain.
Moreover, according to yet another specific embodiment of the present invention, the attack repellent device also comprises a fending stick arranged cross sectional to the rod and extending from both sides of the rod, said fending stick having a length in the range of 20 - 45 cm and being arranged between the restraint crutch and the front handle. The fending stick functions as an extra safety unit if an attacker, unexpectedly, would be able to get out from the crutch. Then the fending stick functions to stop the attacker and the user is still at a distance from the attacker so that the attacker cannot reach the body of the user.
According to yet another specific embodiment of the present invention, the attack repellent device has a distance of at least 120 cm from the inner middle portion functioning as a pressing portion to the front handle, measured along the rod when the attack repellent device is in a full extended operation mode. This feature provides an even safer distance for the user to the person intended to restrain.
Furthermore, the attack repellent device according to the present invention may be hinged along the rod and is thus foldable. According to yet another embodiment, then the entire crutch is foldable. Furthermore, also the crutch arms may be foldable one by one according to the present invention. This feature, i.e. the foldable property, may simplify for a user to carry the device when not intended to be used directly.
According to yet another embodiment of the present invention, the distance from one crutch arm to the other crutch arm, at both ends of these crutch arms, is in the range of 50 -75 cm. This range both ensures an enough width so that a person intended to be restrained has great difficulty to get out once being inside of the crutch arms, but is not too wide to be difficult to get through doors inside of a house. Furthermore, the crutch arms exhibit a V shape so also the range given above at the end of the arms also imply that the length of each arm has to be in a suitable range to provide such range between the ends thereof. Suitably, the length of the arms of the crutch should be at least 40 cm. Moreover, the angle of the crutch arms may vary, e.g. in the range of 75-105 degrees, such as 80-100 degrees, e.g. about 90 degrees.
Moreover, it is also preferred to ensure that a person intended to be restrained, such a perpetrator, should not be able to grip around the crutch. Therefore, the circumference around the crutch should be at least 15 cm, or at least should the crutch in itself be uncomfortable to grip or be irregular wavy so that a person tryign to grip around it has difficulties to keep a strong grip.
Furthermore, preferably a distance between the fending stick and the rear handle is at least 100 cm, measured along the rod when the attack repellent device is in a full extended operation mode. This is to provide the attack repellent device with an increased safety level for the user. There are of course many factors deciding the ability of a specific perpetrator, such as length, agility, balance, etc. Nevertheless, the suggested minimum distance between the rear handle and a possible fending stick given above is suitable to ensure a safe handling of a perpetrator. It should be mentioned that the distance between the crutch, or in fact the pressing portion in the crutch, and the user, i.e. the hands of the user, i.e. foremost the front handle, is of course the basic crucial distance to ensure a safe handling for the user. As mentioned, this distance is preferably at least 120 cm.
According to yet another specific embodiment of the present invention, the inner middle portion functioning as a pressing portion is at least 20 cm. This may be important to provide an enough wide surface when putting pressure on a person intended to restrain.
Furthermore, the attack repellent device according to the present invention may also have other means / comprise add-ons. One example is a holder on the rod. Such a holder may be intended to hold e.g. a pepper spray container, intended to be used as an extra safety means. Moreover, the holder may also contain or hold a flashlight. The placement of the holder may be in arrange of 20-35 cm, e.g. in a range of 25-30 cm, from the rear handle.
In relation to the incorporation of an illuminating property to be used in dark places, it may be said that the attack repellent device may hold a flashlight or integrated LED lights or the like. Integrated lights may be possible to operate with a switch positioned at one of or both of the handles.
The total length of the attack repellent device, when being in full extended operation mode, is suitably maximum 240 cm as a standard height from floor to ceiling is normally 250 cm. Moreover, the total length is suitably at least 180 cm to ensure an enough distance between the user and a possible perpetrator.
There are also other features and properties of the attack repellent device according to the present invention which may be of interest to discuss. To give one example, according to one specific embodiment, at least part of the entire attack repellent device is made of aluminium or a composite material. Moreover, if aluminium is used then the thickness of the material should be at least 3 mm.
Furthermore, also the cross sectional shape of the tube used may be of interest. For instance, square tubes may be of interest to use to increase the stiffness.
Moreover, the total weight of the device is suitably in the range of 2 - 6 kg. Furthermore, the balance point of the attack repellent device is suitably close to or at the front handle.
Description of the drawings In fig. 1 there is shown one embodiment of an attack repellent device 1 according to the present invention. The attack repellent device 1 comprises a manoeuver unit 2 with a rod 3. Moreover, the said attack repellent device 1 also comprises a restraint crutch 4 arranged at one end of the rod 3. The restraint crutch 4 comprises two crutch arms 5, 6. Furthermore, the restraint crutch 4 also comprises an inner middle portion 7 being cross sectional from one crutch arm 5 to the other crutch arm 6, where the inner middle portion 7 functions as a pressing portion against a perpetrator when the user pushes the attack repellent device 1 on the body, e.g. the torso, of the perpetrator. Moreover, the attack repellent device 1 comprises a front handle 8 and a rear handle 9 arranged at a distance from one another. Furthermore, the attack repellent device 1 according to this embodiment also comprises a fending stick 10 as an extra protection for the user. According to this specific embodiment, the attack repellent device 1 also comprises a holder 11 intended to hold a pepper spray can and/or a flashlight. It should be noted that the attack repellent device 1 may also comprise other additional or substitutional means, e.g. LED lights and one or more switches, etc.
As notable fig. 1 shows the attack repellent device in a compact carrying mode CM. Fig. 2, however shows the same embodiment as in fig. 1, but in this case in the full extended operation mode OM. As may be noted, fig. 1 and 2 shows an embodiment according to the present invention, where it has a telescopic feature where one part of the rod 3 is insertable in another part of the rod 3.
