Description
DISPLAY MOUNT Technical field The present invention relates to a display mount. More specifically the presentinvention relates to a display mount which provides support for four differentattachment means on the display.
Description of the prior art Flat panel monitors and televisions are used extensively in commercial, residentialand business environments. These flat panel displays enable an enhancedviewing experience and provide numerous advantages over the prior CRTmonitors and TV's, of which the space savings is the most obvious advantage. Flatpanel monitors may be hung on a wall, a column, a post or a flat surface of a pieceof furniture. The flat panel monitors and televisions are getting increasingly thin. ltis preferable for aesthetic reasons that the display be mounted as closely aspossible to the mounting surface. Examples on other functions that are desirableto include in the wall mount are positioning and adjustment.
Many flat panel displays on the market have four attachment means on the back, such as, e.g., threaded holes in which screws are inserted. The manufacturersusually recommend that all four attachment points are used when mounting thedisplay on the wall mount. The distance between the attachment means on thedisplay may, however, vary horizontally as well as vertically from display todisplay. lt is therefore desirable to have a number of different support means atvarious positions on the display mount for reception of the attachment means suchas the screw heads of the screws in the threaded holes.
WO 2007/130374 describes apparatuses and methods for mounting displaysincluding flat panel televisions. One of the described embodiments comprises afirst frame to be attached to the wall and a second frame to be attached to adisplay. The second frame is hinged to the first frame. The second framecomprises two parallel rails with two fixed crossed beams. A number of elongatedholes are provided in the crossed beams to allow attachment of displays withvarious distances between the attachment means. The two frames that are hingedto each other provides for positioning of the display at different angles to the wall. However, for some applications in which angle positioning is not necessary the two frames only add to the thickness of the wall mount which might be undesirablein some instances.
WO 2009/033133 describes a display wall mount with elastomeric spring latch andpost- installation height adjustment and |eve||ing feature. The display wall mountcomprises upper and lower flanges which are to be arranged essentiallyhorizontally on a wall and two display interface brackets which are tiltable inrelation to the wall and on which the display is to be mounted.
Summary of the invention An object of the present invention is to provide a display mount, which is analternative to the display mounts according to the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a display mount which has aminimal extension perpendicular to the surface on which the display is to bemounted.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a display mount which isadapted to engage with display having various distances between the attachmentmeans vertically as well as horizontally.
At least one of the above objects are fulfilled with a display mount according toclaim 1.
Further advantages of the invention are provided with the features of thedependent claims.
A display mount according to the invention comprises an upper flange with alength axis and at least three support means adapted for reception of attachmentmeans on a display, a lower flange with a length axis and at least three supportmeans for reception of attachment means on a display. The display mount ischaracterized in that it comprises two bars which are rotatably connected to eachother in a crossing point and connected to each one of the flanges, that the upperflange comprises at least three attachment points for attachment of one end of thebars and that the lower flange comprises at least three attachment points forattachment of the other end of the bars. Thus, the distance between the upperflange and the lower flange may be changed by changing the attachment points towhich the bars are connected.
The display mount is to be arranged with the length axes of the flanges essentiallyhorizontal.
A display mount according to the invention may provide support for all theattachment means on a display, independently of the distances between theattachment means. The distances between the support means on each one of theflanges are preferably chosen to match the standardized distances in thehorizontal direction between attachment means on displays.
The flanges may have the form of plates having at least one mounting portion tobe arranged against a flat surface on which the display mount is to be arrangedand at least one support portion in which the support means are arranged.
The support means may be arranged for engagement with attachment means on adisplay by lifting the display in position so that the attachment means essentiallyengages the support means from above. This provides for easy attachmentlde-tachment of the display on the display mount without requiring complicatedmechanical constructions on the display mount.
Each one of the support means may have the form of a U-shaped groove in thesupport portion arranged to be in engagement with an attachment means, such asa shaft with a head. The U-shaped groove is then intended to receive the shaftwhile the head is intended to rest behind the U-shaped groove preventing the shaftand the display from sliding out of the U-shaped groove.
The display mount may comprise a lock member which is arranged to close thetop of the U-shaped grooves in order to lock the attachment means in place. Sucha lock member may be provided in many different ways. According to oneembodiment the support means are in the form of U-shaped grooves in whichcase the lock member may comprise a number of hooks which are movablebetween a first position in which the hooks are blocking the top of the U-shapedgrooves and a second position in which the hooks are arranged between U-shaped grooves.
As an alternative the support means may have the form of protrusions. ln this casethe attachment means on the display preferably comprise U-shaped grooves toengage with the protrusions in the form of shaft with a head.
The upper flange may comprise a through going central mounting hole at theposition of the centre of gravity for the display mount along the length axis of theupper flange. With such a central mounting hole the positioning of the displaymount may be made in a jiff by arranging the display mount on a screw throughthe central mounting hole without tightening the screw. The display mount will thenlevel automatically and the holes for the other screws may be marked.
The support means may be arranged symmetrically on both sides of the centralmounting hole, i.e. on both sides of a vertical line through the central mountinghole. Correspondingly the attachment points may be arranged symmetricallyaround the central mounting hole.
The flanges may be made of metal. lt is of course possible to use any materialwith sufficient strength for the flanges such as reinforced plastic. However, metal isa relatively cheap material which may easily be formed to the correct shape.
The attachment points may have the form of through going holes and the barsmay have corresponding through going holes, so that the bars may be attached tothe flanges using screws. lt is of course possible to arrange the attachment pointsin other ways. ln case the attachment points are in the form of through going holes at least one ofthem may have an elongate shape. ln this way only the three remainingattachment points have to be released when altering the distance between theflanges while the screw may slide in the elongate hole to fit the new distancebetween the flanges. ln the following preferred embodiments of the invention will be described withreference to the appended drawings.
Short description of the drawinqs Fig 1 is a perspective view of a display mount according to an embodiment of thepresent invention.
Fig 2 is a front view of the display mount of Fig 1.Fig 3 is a back view of the display mount of Fig 1.

The support means are arranged forengagement with the attachment means 5 on a display by lifting the display inposition so that the attachment means 5 essentially engages the support means 4,8, from above. Each one of the attachment means 5 has the form of a shaft 17having a first diameter and a head 18 having a second diameter. The width of theU-shaped groove is larger than the diameter of the shaft allowing the shaft to beinserted into the U-shaped groove from above. The width of the U-shaped groove is considerably smaller than the diameter of the head 18 of the attachment means5 preventing the attachment mean from leaving the support means 4, 8.
The display mount also comprises a lock member 19 which is arranged to closethe top of the U-shaped grooves in order to lock the attachment means 5 in place. The lock member comprises a hook 20 for each one of the U-shaped grooves anda coupling member 21 which connects the hooks 20. The lock member 19 isarranged with the coupling member 21 below the bottom of the U-shaped grooves. The lock member 19 is slidably arranged in relation to the support portion 10between a first position and a second position. ln the first position shown in thefigures the hooks are blocking the top of the U-shaped grooves preventing theattachment means 5 from leaving engagement with the U-shaped grooves.
The upper flange 2 comprises a through going central mounting hole 22 at theposition of the centre ofgravity for the display mount 1 along the length axis 3 ofthe upper flange 2. The support means 4, 8, as well as the attachment points 14are arranged symmetrically around the central mounting hole.
The display mount may be made of any material with a sufficient strength toaccommodate the weight of a display. One favourable material for the flanges ismetal. ln the described embodiment the attachment points have the form of throughgoing holes and the bars have corresponding through going holes, so that the barsmay be attached to the flanges using screws. lt is of course also possible to havethe attachment points in the form of studs on which the holes in the end of the barsare attached. As a further alternative at least one of the through going holes at theattachment points may have an elongate shape.
The described embodiments may be modified in many ways without departingfrom the spirit and scope of the present invention which is limited only by theappended claims. lt is not necessary to have the attachment points in the form of through goingholes 14. The attachment points could also be in the form of studs protruding fromthe flanges.
