Abstract
Description
50 20 8 30 35 505 835 - '2 with the co-generating negative pressure generating means extending beyond the means defining the flow of airborne fibers, ambient air may flow through the air-permeable web in directions parallel to the fiber-air flow. This counteracts the formation of transverse air currents, which can interfere with previously laid layers of fibers on the air-permeable web, while providing an air seal at the edge of the means, which delimits the flow of airborne fibers, which air seal prevents fibers or any superabsorbent area from spreading outside the supply area. . Previously laid fiber layers will also be affected by a retaining suction force, which strives to maintain the shape of previously laid fiber layers.
In a preferred embodiment, in which the running web consists of a series of molds arranged one after the other in the running direction with air-permeable bottom and the means for delimiting the flow of air-borne fibers consist of at least a first carpet forming hood, which cooperates with a vacuum box extending transversely over the whole mold, the first carpet forming hood extends transversely relative to the running direction with at least a portion only over a part of the bottom of the passing molds and that the ambient air has free access to the areas of the mold bottoms which transversely extend outside the carpet forming hood. Furthermore, the row of molds is arranged along the periphery of a carpet forming drum.
In a first variant of this embodiment, a second mat-forming hood in the running direction is arranged upstream of the first and extends transversely over substantially the entire bottom of the passing molds.
In a second variant of this embodiment, the first carpet forming hood comprises a part with side walls diverging in the running direction.
10 visar en snittvy längs linjen X-X i figur 9.In a third variant of this embodiment, the first carpet forming hood comprises a part with side walls converging in the running direction. Fig. 7 shows two carpet forming hoods and a carpet forming wheel according to a third embodiment of the invention, Fig. 8 shows a sectional view along the line VIII-VIII in Figure 7, Fig. 9 shows three carpet forming hoods and a carpet forming wheel according to a fourth embodiment of the invention, and Fig. 10 shows a sectional view along the line XX in Figure 9.
The device according to a first embodiment of the invention schematically shown in Figures 1-3 comprises a carpet forming drum 1, which rotates in the direction indicated by the arrow A. Around the periphery of the drum, a row of molds 2 with air-permeable bottom are arranged. A stationary vacuum box 3 is arranged in the interior of the carpet forming drum 1 radially inside the running shape-containing peripheral surface. Transversely relative to the direction of rotation of the drum 1, the vacuum box 3 extends over the entire length of the bottoms of the molds 2. Radially outside the drum periphery and within the area of the circumferential extent of the vacuum box 10, a mat forming hood 4 is provided.
The mat forming hood 4 is connected to means (not shown) for supplying airborne fibers or the like, e.g. airborne cellulosic fibers. During operation of the device, a stream of airborne fibers is sucked into the molds 2 during their passage under the carpet forming hood 4, the air passing through the air-permeable mold bottoms and into the vacuum box while the fibers remain in the molds.
After the molds have passed the carpet forming hood, the fibrous bodies formed in the molds are discharged in a conventional manner on a conveyor (not shown) for further processing in a process line for absorbent sanitary articles.
The mat forming hood 4 has a circumferential width of varying width. In an upstream first part a located in the running direction relative to the drum 1, the carpet forming hood has a width corresponding to the width of the vacuum box 3, which means that a fibrous layer is aired in a mold 2 over the entire length of the mold bottom when the mold enters this area of the carpet forming hood. Figure 2 shows a schematic sectional view through this part of the carpet forming hood 4. In this figure, as in Figures 3,5,6 and 8, sectioned arrows indicate streams of airborne fibers or the like while unfilled arrows indicate streams of air only. As can be seen from Figure 2, airborne fibers from this first part of the mat forming hood 4 flow into the mold 2 over the entire length of the mold, ie. its extent perpendicular to the direction of rotation of the carpet forming drum, the fibers being deposited on the mold bottom when this stream passes through the mold bottom and the previously laid fiber layer thereon. When a mold 2 passes through this first part of the carpet-forming hood, an evenly thick layer of fiber is thus deposited at the bottom of the mold.
Downstream of the above-mentioned first part, the carpet forming hood 4 has a second part b with walls converging in the running direction of the molds, which part is terminated by a section c with walls running parallel in the running direction, which section extends only over a central part of the carpet forming drum and its molds.
Furthermore, the device is designed such that the ambient air has free access to the area outside the carpet forming hood 4. Figure 3 shows in cross section the deposited fibrous layer in a mold 2 just before it has passed past the carpet forming hood 4. As can be seen from this figure, a stream of airborne fibers flows through the mold bottom with delivery of its fiber content only in a central part of the mold while ambient air flows through the mold bottom on either side of the carpet forming hood. The streams of ambient air and airborne fibers are parallel to each other, which means that the streams of ambient air function as air seals and ensure that fibers cannot flow out laterally from the carpet forming hood. Because the ambient air has free access to the mold bottom in the area outside the carpet forming hood 4, the formation of transverse air currents is also prevented, which could damage the fibrous layer previously laid on the mold bottom. During the passage of the mold 2 of the section c of the carpet forming hood 4, a fiber layer will thus be deposited on a previously laid layer only in the central part of the mold.
Detta innebär att på ömse sidor om det centrala område hos formen 2, som avgränsas av mattbildarhuvens 4 sidokanter i avsnittet a, kommer ett fiberskikt med från formens 2 ändkanter successivt ökande tjocklek att avläggas vid formens 2 passage av mattbildar- huven 4.Upon the passage 2 of the mold b of the part b of the carpet forming hood 4, the hood 4 tapers gradually, which means that the proportion of layers previously laid on the mold bottom, which end up outside the side edges of the hood 4, will gradually increase. This means that on either side of the central area of the mold 2, which is delimited by the side edges of the carpet forming hood 4 in section a, a fibrous layer with a gradually increasing thickness from the end edges of the mold 2 will be deposited during the mold 2 passage of the carpet forming hood 4.
Figures 4-6 show similar views as Figures 1-3 of a second embodiment of a device according to the invention.
Runt mattbildartrummans periferi är en rad av formar 7 med luftgenomtränglig botten anordnade, vilka under 10 15 20 25 30 35 505 835 6 en del av sin rotationsrörelse samverkar med en i trummans 6 inre anordnad vakuumlåda 8.This embodiment differs from the embodiment shown in Figures 1-3 essentially in that the carpet forming hood 5 has a different shape than the carpet forming hood 4. The carpet forming hood 5 has a first part a located upstream in the running direction of the carpet forming drum 6 with side edges which are parallel to the running direction, and a second part b with side edges diverging in the running direction. Arranged around the periphery of the carpet forming drum is a row of molds 7 with air-permeable bottom, which during a part of their rotational movement cooperate with a vacuum box 8 arranged in the interior of the drum 6.
During its rotational movement, each mold 7 will first pass under the first part a of the carpet forming hood 5, whereby a central, laterally well-defined fiber layer is deposited on the bottom of the mold 7, as shown in Figure 5. Thereafter, the mold passes under the second part b of the hood 5 , wherein an increasing part of the mold bottom is touched by the flow of airborne fibers from the carpet forming hood so that a transversely wider layer of fibers transversely to the direction of movement of the drum 6 is superimposed on previously deposited fiber layer on the mold bottom. Figure 6 shows in a cross-sectional view the fibrous layer deposited in the mold 7 just before it has completely passed the downstream end of the carpet forming hood 5. As can be seen from this figure, the deposited fibrous layer on exiting the hood 5 has qualitatively the same shape as the fibrous layer shown in Figure 3. when exiting the hood 4.
In this context, it is pointed out that the inclination curve of the upper sides of the increasingly thicker bodies of the fiber bodies shown from the end edges of the mold bottom towards the central parts of Figures 3 and 6 is of course dependent on the inclination and shape of the converging resp. diverging the sides of the carpet forming hoods. If these sides are rectilinear, the upper sides of the corresponding parts of the fibrous bodies also become flat, while curved sides of these parts of the carpet-forming hoods produce curved upper sides. Furthermore, the inclination of these upper sides depends on the inclination of the converging or diverging sides of the carpet forming hood so that the inclination of the upper sides becomes larger the more mentioned sides of the carpet forming hoods are inclined towards the direction of rotation of the drum. The shape and inclination of said parts of the upper sides of the fibrous bodies can thus be varied within the scope of the invention in a number of different ways by varying the shape and inclination of the converging and diverging sides of the carpet forming hoods, for example these may contain both rectilinear and curved parts.
In this embodiment, two mat forming hoods 9,10 10 15 20 25 30 35 505 835 7 are placed one after the other in the running direction of a row of molds 12 arranged in the peripheral surface of a mat forming drum 11. Inside the mat forming drum and radially inside the trumping periphery two vacuum boxes 13,14 are stationary arranged, which by their placement cooperate with the hood 10 resp. 9. Both mat-forming hoods 9,10 have parallel sides with the running direction of the molds, but the hood 9 has a considerably smaller transverse extent than the hood 10, which transversely extends substantially over the entire length of the molds 12. As the molds 12 pass the upstream hood 10, a first wide fibrous layer will be deposited in the molds and at the subsequent passage of the hood 9, a centrally narrow fibrous layer will be superimposed on the previously laid wide layer, as schematically shown in Figure 8. 9,10 may contain airborne fibers of the same or different kinds with or without admixture of particulate superabsorbent material. If the same fiber mixture is used in both hoods 9,10, these can be integrated into a single hood, but if exact amounts of fiber are required in the different layers, it is suitable with the division shown in two hoods 9,10.
Figures 9 and 10 show a fourth embodiment of a device according to the invention comprising three carpet forming hoods 15, 16, 17 cooperating with a suction box 19 arranged inside a carpet forming wheel 18. The carpet forming hoods 15-17 are arranged next to each other and together cover substantially the entire length of the molds 20 while each of the hoods has a significantly smaller width than the length of the mold.
During operation of the device shown in Figure 9, three profiled sub-bodies 21-23 will thus be deposited in the mold 20, which bodies adjoin each other and together form a composite absorbent body. In this case, harmful transverse flows at the fiber layer deposited under the hood 15 are prevented by the ambient air, which in this case consists of a stream of airborne fibers, having free access to the areas of the bottom of the mold 20 which transversely extend beyond the bottom of the mold. . The central sub-body 22, which is of course located in the wetting area of the formed composite absorption body, is suitably constituted by a type of fiber which gives a good liquid inlet, e.g. CTMP or crosslinked cellulosic fibers, while the outer sub-bodies 21 and 23 suitably consist of a type of fiber which gives good liquid dispersion, e.g. chemical mass. Thus, by means of the embodiment shown in Figures 9 and 10, it is possible in a simple manner to obtain absorbent bodies composed of different types of fibers with desired properties with respect to liquid inlet, liquid dispersion and liquid storage. You can also easily mix different amounts of superabsorbents in different parts of the absorption body.
A number of modifications of the described embodiments are of course possible within the scope of the invention. For example, additional carpet forming hoods can be provided at the carpet forming drums shown in Figures 1, 4, 7 and 9. Furthermore, the carpet forming hoods, which have a width less than the length of the molds, do not have to be centrally arranged but can be placed offset transversely in one or the other direction and several such carpet forming hoods can be arranged next to each other. The embodiment shown in Figures 7 and 8 can be combined with one of the other two embodiments, e.g. in that the hood 10 is formed with a part with converging or diverging side walls. The same applies to the embodiment shown in Figures 9 and 10, e.g. hoods 16 and 17 could have converging outer walls. The invention can of course also be applied to running tracks other than carpet forming drums, e.g. a linearly continuous air-permeable web.
In addition, the molds can be arranged with their longitudinal direction in the running direction, whereby transversely profiled fibrous bodies are produced. The invention is therefore to be limited only by the content of the appended claims.
