Abstract

Method for the prepn. of an apertured prod. from (a) base material possessing relatively good toughness and at least moderate hardness, e.g. steel, pig iron, tough iron or aluminium, and (b) a reinforcing material (4) having essentially a greater hardness than (a), e.g. cast iron or a steel alloy having good temperability, for imparting good aperture strength, comprises: (i) placing several cases of (a) in the base of a casting mould; (ii) casting (b) into the cases; and (iii) casting (a) around the cases once (b) has solidified but whilst it remains red-hot.
