[Also in Division F2] A mat 2 of mineral wool fibres containing a binding agent, is wound on to a rotatable apertured mandril 1 whilst being pressed thereagainst by an endless belt 6; when the desired thickness has been wound on to the mandril 1 the supply of matting 2 is terminated and fluid is passed through the apertured mandril 1 and/ or upon the outside of the mat in such a way that the binding agent hardens. The endless belt 6 passes over pulleys 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 and as the diameter of the winding on the mandril 1 increases the pulley 11 is caused to rise. The support for the pulley 11 eventually engages a contact 15 to excite a relay to cause a non-rotatable cylindrical member 16 to descend and cause the matting to tear apart below the member 16.
