A transparency M which is to be repeatedly printed stepwise on to a photographic film or sensitized printing plate is mounted in a holder K which is attached by buttons E 1 , E 2 to a slide bar B movable in a groove in a base plate A. The slider B has a row of equi-spaced holes D in which the buttons engage. A graduation mark L relates each hole to a mark on a scale S along the edge of plate A. In the example shown, the holes D are 1 cm apart. Slide B also has a second row of holes G similar to the row D, but staggered with respect thereto. Fixed over the edge of plate A is a transparent bar C, which covers the scale S and also part of slider B. Bar C has a row of holes H which are spaced more widely apart than those in rows D and G, e.g. 1À1 cm apart in the present example. In using the device, the holder K is initially mounted on slider B in the position shown, with button E 1 in the hole D corresponding to the zero mark on scale S. A third button E 3 is inserted into the first holes of rows G and H, which coincide. After the printing has been made, buttons E 1 , E 2 are removed, and holder K moved along to the next required position. If this displacement is a number of cm, button E 3 remains in its place. If the displacement required is not a whole number of cm but, for example, 12À4 cm, holder K is first moved along the slider until button E 1 can be inserted into the hole D corresponding to the 12 cm mark on scale S. The slider itself is then moved along until its fifth hole G coincides with the fifth hole H in bar C, and button E 3 placed through the two holes. Thus the slider will have been moved 0À4 cm, and the graduation mark L corresponding to button E 1 will indicate 12À4 cm on scale S.
