Abstract
Caffeine in the form of an abrasion-resistant non-coloured caffeine granulate is prepared by melting caffeine in the presence of a reducing agent which is inert to caffeine and which has completely left the caffeine by the time the melt has cooled, cooling the melt and grinding the cooled melt to give the desired granulate. Suitable reducing agents are hydrazine and formaldehyde.
