Abstract

[Also in Division G2] A photo-detector tube, e.g. a photo-multiplier, has a transparent plane wall 2, Fig. 1, a photoemissive coating 3 and a prism 4 of trapezoidal section attached to the central portion of the outer side of the wall 2. Both the light reflected by the side 8 directly into the wall 2 and the light reflected by the two walls 8 and 7 enter the wall at an angle of 45 degrees. The corner 6, 7 of the prism may be omitted. Fig. 3 shows a section through two prisms 4, 4a or a section through a single prism of rotationally symmetrical form. An integral or separate parallelepipedal extension or extensions 6, 7, 11, 12; 6a, 7a, 11a, 12 may be provided.
