A filter-type face mask comprises a round preformed moulded seamless one-piece cup of resilient filter membrane weighing not more than 10 grms. and having an area of 20 to 30 sq. ins., the filter membraine comprising a compacted moulded porous layer of randomly interlaced staple textile fibres coated and unified by a rubbery water-insoluble sizing agent the air flow pressure drop therethrough being not over 0. 05" water at a flow rate of 30 litres per minute. In use, the cup is spaced from the nose and mouth and makers low pressure marginal contact with the face.
