Abstract
1,189,914. Serial film changer and X-ray film cassette. AXEL KISTNER A.B. 6 June, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 26972/68. Heading H5R. A film sheet changer includes a feeding station with a store 55 of unexposed film sheet, a feeding device including one or more friction means 43 adapted to be rotated intermittently to remove sheets singly from the store to an exposure station 3 which includes a movable and a stationary intensifying screen-4 and 5 respectively-between which the film is held during exposure, and a conveyer to convey film sheets from the exposure station to a collecting station which has a store 59 for exposed films. Preferably the friction means 43 are displaceably connected to stud or studs 40 fixed to intermittently rotating shaft 38, the stud 40 being tubular, and a trunnion 41 having a disc 42 to support the friction means 43 is displaceable, e.g. by spring 44, to abut the film sheets in certain angular positions of the shaft. The store 55 preferably holds the unexposed film sheets in a semicircular arc, the stores 55 and 59 comprising containers adapted to be transferred between cassettes 45 insertable into a support in the casing 1 and semicircular grooves in the walls of the feeding and collecting stations respectively Preferably the storage container 47 has, as shown in Fig. 7, a flexible base 48 and longitudinal sides 50 with notches 51, the upstanding portions 52 having lips 53 to retain sheet film therein. The storage container 47, together with outer housing 46 forms cassette 45, the housing being provided with flaps 49 at each end, one end 54 of the container 47 being inclined. After inserting the cassette into the housing 1, either of the flaps 49 may be raised to slide the container 47 into either the feeding or the collecting station. Similarly a container of exposed film may be withdrawn from the collecting station into an appropriately positioned housing 46, the completed cassette 45 being withdrawn for processing. The conveyer as shown in Fig. 3 comprises two parallel endless belts 18, 19 running over driving wheels 16, 17 and idling wheels 20 and 21. Each belt has two lugs 34, 35 spaced as far apart as possible around the belt serving alternately as stops and drivers for film sheets fed from the feed store and to the collecting store. A film brake 61 is fitted to hold a film sheet near its leading edge against rearward movement when the film is fed to the exposure position, each brake (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown) includes a roller or ball in a recess which is so shaped that the roller or ball is pressed against the film if it moves backwards, but the ball rises to free the film if it moves forward. Clutches 13 and 37 are fitted to drive shafts 14 and 38 so that the conveyer and the friction means may be individually and adjustably, controlled. The movable screen 5 may be supported by two or more sheet springs 28, 29 connected to guide rods 26, 27 which rods are movable, e.g. under the control of an electromagnetic clutch 31 to straighten the springs and move screen 5 towards screen 4.
