Abstract
A device (1) for guiding a visually impaired person. The device comprises a laser unit (10) configured to project a laser line at a surface (5) to provide a projected laser line (11), a camera (20) configured to capture a first image of the surface, the first image comprising the projected laser line, and a processor (30). The processor is configured to extract the projected laser line from the first image to obtain an extracted line (31), determine that the surface comprises an obstacle (7) based on a parameter relating to the extracted line, the parameter being at least one of a straightness of the extracted line, continuity, and an angle, and cause a feedback device to provide feedback to the person in response to the parameter being above or below a predetermined threshold.
