Abstract
A method for applying a straw to a disposable packaging container used for drinks, by pressing a groove in the wall of the container to imbed a straw and a covering lid to close the groove with a small lap attached to it, this small lap used to open the covering lid in order to take out the straw, the groove is pressed on the wall or on the side of the packaging container and the material of the said covering lid is environment friendly, the straws can be of the types, which are bended straw or telescopic straw to be imbedded in the groove.
Description
Method for applying straw to the packaging container for drinks Field of invention The present invention related to a method for ímbedding drink straw to prefabricate packaging containers wall.
Background ofthe invention Manufacturing single volume disposable packages for drinks intended to be consumed directly from the package. Most of these packages are provided with drinking straws attached to one side wall of the package. These straws are mainly manufactured from paper or paper board with some sort of laminated layer, with different layer of thermoplastics and possibly other materials. The packaging has a hole on one wall, most often the top wall, covered by a thin layer, which makes it easy to penetrate the hole with the drinking straw that accompanies the packaging container to consume the drink inside the package.
Ingvar Kristensson in his invention explains the design of a straw to be used for drinking consumption from packaging container. The invention was explained in his patent EP 0706340 B dated 1998, which comprises of two tubular sections with interconnecting end portions, and they are of the same diameter. First tubular section has reduced diameter at one end while the second tubular section has an outwardly flared portion, so then can fit into each other to make one long straw. The second tubular section has an obliquely cut so it can penetrate the hole cover of the upper wall of the container.
Chris Kestle invented a straw, which has a circular cross-section, one end has an obliquely cut, and the straw is bended from almost the middle (Fig. 2). Kestle shows his invention in the patent SE 531 294 C2 dated 2009.
Many other patents and patent applications has been published regarding manufacturing the packaging containers and applying straw machines, e.g., SE 4513178 B, EP 1042172 B1, SE 0102247-4, SE 501636 C2, EP 1238921 Bl, and many others.
Summary ofthe invention A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, comprises a groove (2) and (22) in the wall of the container (1) and (21) to imbed a straw (4) and (24) and a covering lid (3) and (23) to close the groove (2) and (22) with a small lap (5) and (25) attached to it, this small lap (5) and (25) used to open the covering lid (3) and (23) in order to take out the straw, the groove (2) and (22) is pressed on the wall or on the side of the packaging container (1) and (21) and the said groove have sizes of length from 93 mm, width from 12 mm and depth from 3.5 mm, the covering lid (3) and (23) of the said groove have sizes of length from 110 mm, width from 23 mm and the material of the said covering lid (3) and (23) is environment friendly, the said straw (4) and (24) characterized by the types, which are bended straw or teiescopic straw to be imbedded in the said groove (2) and (22), the said small Iap (5) and (25) that is attached to the covering lid (3) and (23) is of length from 10 mm and width equal or less than the width of the said covering lid (3) and (23).
Brief description of the drawings The preferred straw application to the packaging containers wall according to the present invention will be described in greater details hereinbelow, with reference to the schematic drawings, which shows the details essential to an understanding of the present invention: Fig. (1): Shows a packaging container 1 and the groove 2 that has been pressed on the wall of the container 1.
Fig. (2): Shows one sample of the straw, bended straw 4.
Fig. (3): Shows a packaging container 1 with the groove 2 cross-section to show the depth of the groove 2.
Fig. (4): Shows a container 1 and the straw 4 imbedded inside the groove 2, and the covering lid 3.
Fig. (5): Shows a container 1 with the straw covered by the covering lid 3 and a small Iap 5 used to remove the covering lid 3 when using the straw 2.
Fig. (6): Shows another packaging container 21 and the groove 22 pressed on the side of the container 21.
Fig. (7): Shows another sample of the straw, teiescopic straw 24.
Fig. (8): Shows a packaging container 21 with the groove 22 cross-section to show the depth of the groove 22.
Fig. (9): Shows a packaging container 21 and the straw 24 imbedded inside the groove 22, and the covering lid 23.
Fig. (10): Shows a packaging container 21 with the straw 24 covered by the covering lid 23 and a small Iap 25 used to remove the covering lid 23 when using the straw 24.
Detailed description and preferred embodiments This invention is a method of applying a straw to the wall of a packaging container by making a groove in the wall of the container using a press apparatus that makes the proper groove size as required. Then placing the straw inside the groove and cover it with environment friendly material, for example but not limited to, paper or paper board to keep the straw clean and hygiene. The packaging container can be of any three-dimensional shape, e.g., but not limited to, cube, cylinder, hexagonal prism, cuboid (rectangular prism), and alike.
There are many types and designs of the straw, for example and not limited to, the bended straw Fig. (2), the telescopic straw Fig. (7) and the two pieces straw patent EP 0706340 B. in this invention will use the bended straw and the telescopic straw as examples to imbed them inside the said groove since they need two different width sizes on the packaging container wall.
The groove size varies and depends on the used straw size and length, e.g., and not limited to, the bended straw Fig. (2) needed for a packaging container of 200 ml, a straw length from 100 mm, which in turns needs a groove size of length from 93 mm and width from 12 mm and depth from 3.5 mm as shown in Fig. (1) and Fig. (3). To cover the groove after imbedding the appropriate straw inside the groove, the size of the covering lid Fig. (4) will be of length from 110 mm and width from 23 mm as shown in Fig. (5). The extra 10 mm is for the small lap Fig. (5) and Fig. (25).
The above-mentioned press apparatus can be added instream to the continuous feeding flattened packaging blanks machine in the process of manufacturing the packaging containers, e.g., but not limited to, the invented machine by Leiflakobsson, which is explained in the patent SE 9302677-1 dated 1995. The press apparatus can be placed before or after cutting the packaging blanks in the mentioned machine, whichever is appropriate.
The benefit of this invention by embedding the straw inside the pressed grove is to save space when the containers are packed together (large quantities packings) and prevents the straw from falling off the containers wall during handling.
Claims 1 A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, comprises a groove (2) and (22) in the wall of the container (1) and (21) to imbed a straw (4) and (24) and a covering lid (3) and (23) to close the groove (2) and (22) with a small lap (5) and (25) attached to it. 2- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the groove (2) and (22) is pressed on the wall or on the side of the packaging container (1) and (21). 3- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, as claimed in claim 1 or 2, the said groove characterized by having sizes of length from 93 mm, width from 12 mm and depth from 3.5 mm. 4- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, the covering lid (3) and (23) of the said groove characterized by having sizes of length from 110 mm, width from 23 mm and the material of the said covering lid (3) and (23) is environment friendly.
- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, as claimed in claim 1 or 2, the said straw (4) and (24)
Claims (6)
1.- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, comprises a groove (2) and (22) in the wall of the container (1) and (21) to imbed a straw (4) and (24) and a covering lid (3) and (23) to close the groove (2) and (22) with a small lap (5) and (25) attached to it. _
2.- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the groove (2) and (22) is pressed on the wall or on the side of the packaging container (1) and (21).
3.- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, as claimed in claim 1 or 2, the said groove characterized by having sizes of length from 93 mm, width from 12 mm and depth from 3.5 mm.
4.- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, the covering lid (3) and (23) of the said groove cha racterized by having sizes of length from 110 mm, width from 23 mm and the material of the said covering lid (3) and (23) is environment friendly.
5.- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, as claimed in claim 1 or 2, the said straw (4) and (24) cha racterized by the types, which are bended straw or telescopic straw to be imbedded in the said groove (2) and (22).
6.- A method for applying a straw (4) and (24) to a disposable packaging container (1) and (21) used for drinks, as claimed in claims 1 and 4, the said small lap (5) and (25) that is attached to the covering lid (3) and (23) is of length from 10 mm and width equal or less than the width of the said covering lid (3) and (23).
