Abstract

An activation device for activating a programmable key is provided. The activation device comprises a programmable-key receiving portion, a cipherkey input arrangement, and circuitry configured to receive a first signal from the programmable key and, subsequently, return a second signal to the programmable key for unlocking a stored access right of the programmable key. The activation device is exclusively connectable to a programmable key configured to be activated by the activation device.

Claims (15)

1. 1. An activation device (100) for activating a programmable key (200), saidactivation device (100) comprising:- a programmable-key receiving portion (110),- a cipher-key input arrangement (140), and- circuitry configured to receive a first signal from the programmable key(200) and, subsequently, return a second signal to the programmablekey (200) for unlocking a stored access right of the programmable key(200), wherein the activation device (100) is exclusively connectable to aprogrammable key (200) configured to be activated by the activation device(100).
2. The activation device (100) of ciaim 1, wherein the programmable-keyreceiving portion (110) comprises a cavity (120) for receiving a key biade(210) of the programmable key (200).
3. The activation device (100) of ciaim 2, wherein the cavity (120) comprisesa programmable-key retaining element (128).
4. The activation device (100) of any one of claims 1-3, wherein the activationdevice (100) is configured to be powered by the programmable key (200)while the programmable key (200) and the activation device (100) are in aconnected state (600).
5. The activation device (100) of any one of claims 1-4, wherein the cipher-key input arrangement (140) is a keypad (140), and wherein an associated cipher is a digit code.
6. The activation device of any one of claims 1-5, configured to begeometrically enclosed by a volume having the dimensions 10x6x2 cm.

A programmable-key system (400), comprising:- an activation device (100) for activating a programmable key (200),and- a programmable key (200) configured to be activated by the activationdevice (100), wherein the activation device (100) comprises: - a programmable-key receiving portion (110), - a cipher-key input arrangement (140), and - circuitry configured to receive a first signal from the programmable key(200) and, subsequently, return a second signal to the programmablekey (200) for unlocking a stored access right of the programmable key(200), and wherein the programmable key (200) comprises:- a key blade (210) configured to be inserted into the programmable-keyreceiving portion (110) and into a lock core, and- circuitry (350) configured for storing an access right, wherein theaccess right allows unlocking of a lock associated with the lock core, and wherein the activation device (100) is exclusively connectable aprogrammable key (200) configured to be activated by the activation device(100).
8. The programmable-key system (400) of claim 7, wherein the stored accessright of the programmable key (200) is set in an unlocked state (610) during afirst period of time.
9. The programmable-key system (400) of any one of claims 7 or 8, whereinthe circuitry of a single activation device (100) is configured for allowingunlocking a stored access right of a plurality of programmable keys (200).
10. The programmable-key system (400) of any one of claims 7-9, whereinthe activation device (100) is configured to be powered by the programmablekey (200) while the programmable key (200) is in an inserted position (600) inthe programmabie-key receiving portion (110).

The programmabie-key system (400) of any one of claims 7-10, whereinthe cipher-key input arrangement (140) is configured to allow, while theprogrammable key (200) is in the inserted position (600) in the activationdevice (100), setting an interconnected stored access right of theprogrammabie key (200) in an unlocked state (610).
12. The programmabie-key system (400) of any one of claims 7-11, whereinthe activation device (100) is non-powered except for while the programmabiekey (200) is in an inserted position (600) in the programmabie-key receivingportion (110) of the activation device (100).

A method (300) for activating a programmabie key (200), said method(300) comprising:transmitting (310) a first signal from the programmable key (200) to an activation device (100) while the programmable key (200) is inserted(600) in a programmabie-key receiving portion (110) of the activationdevice (100), - receiving (320) a decipher key from a cipher-key input arrangement(140) of the activation device (100) being exclusively connectable to aprogrammabie key (200) configured to be activated by the activationdevice (100), - transmitting (330) a second signal from the activation device (100) tothe programmable key (200), - determining (340) an interconnection between the second signal and acandidate list of stored access rights of the programmabie key (200),and - provided the second signal being interconnected with a stored accessright of the candidate list of stored access rights of the programmabiekey (200), setting (350) the stored access right in an unlocked state(610).
14. The method (300) of ciaim 13, wherein the setting (350) of the stored5 access right in the unlocked state (610) comprises:- maintaining the unlocked state (610) of the stored access right during a first period oftime.
15. The method of any one of claims 13 or 14, comprising10 - preventing the activation device (100) to be powered except for while akey blade (210) of the programmable key (200) is in an insertedposition (610) in the programmable-key receiving portion (110) ofthe activation device (100).
