The disclosure relates to a blank (1) configured to be erected into a storage container (100) configured to receive one or more subcontainers (200), the blank (1) comprising: a bottom panel (10), a rear wall panel (20) and a lid panel (30), a first and a second side panel (11, 13) foldably connected to a respective transversal side of the bottom panel (10), one or more bottom front rim panels (12a, 12b) being configured to form a bottom front rim, one or more lid front rim panels (32a, 32b) being configured to form a lid front rim, wherein the bottom front rim and the lid front rim together have a total extension (d12, d32) along the longitudinal direction (L) being less than a longitudinal extension of the rear wall panel (20) such that an open front is formed when the blank (1) is erected into said storage container (100). The disclosure also relates to a subcontainer blank (2) and a kit of parts of such blanks (1, 2).

Description

BLANK CONFIGURED TO BE ERECTED TO FORIVI A STORAGECONTAINER, AND A KIT OF BLANKS CONFIGURED TO BE ERECTED TOFORIVI A STORAGE CONTAINER AND A SUBCONTAINER Field of invention The present invention relates to a blank configured to be erected toform a storage container. The storage container is configured to be capable ofreceiving one or more subcontainers that may be recycling containers. Theinvention further relates to a kit of blanks configured to be erected to form a storage container and a subcontainer.
Technical backgroundRecycling of waste is widely practiced to create new products or materials. Different types of waste generally need to be recycled by use ofdifferent procedures. For example, metal and cardboard waste products aretypically treated using different recycling processes. Separating waste,dependent on the type of the waste, requires separate storage bins fordifferent types of waste. However, it can be place-consuming, unpractical andun-aesthetic for customers to separately store their recyclable waste at home.lt would be useful for the customers to have a possibility of a practical andesthetical separate storage of different types of waste at home or elsewhere.Another problem with storage of the waste is that waste bins becomedirty and un-hygienical after a time of use. Plastic and/or paper bags can beused for keeping the waste bins fresh inside and/or to facilitate emptying ofthe bins. However, throwing a paper and/or plastic bag every time there is aneed of emptying the bin causes an undesired environmental impact.Therefore, there is a need of a solution that allows bins to be emptied withoutnecessitating the use of a disposable plastic and/or paper bag being thrownaway every time a bin is emptied.Further, there are situations when a permanent waste storage is not required, but a possibility of easy use and discard of the waste storage is valuable. When used for a shorter time, there is no need of a permanentsolution, but a semi-permanent solution is preferred. For example, if aseparate waste storage is used during a holiday period while caravanning orduring an exhibition, it would be convenient to have a possibility of discardingthe waste storage with a minimal environmental impact when its generalcondition deteriorates and the bin becomes aesthetically undesirable or eventurns into un-useful, and/or when there is no more need of it.
There are various kinds of recycling bins presently used. They comein various shapes, sizes and materials. Although recycling bins made of stiffmaterial, such as boxes made of moulded plastic, typically are robust, suchboxes tend to occupy a large space when not in use, as while transported orstored in order to be sold, and such boxes also often make use of largeamounts of material. On the other hand, recycling bins made of comparablysoft or light material, such as recycling bins formed by folding paper-basedblanks, often requires specific measurements to provide sufficient stability.
Various kinds of storage containers for storage of one or morerecycling bins for different types of waste are presently used. They come invarious shapes, sizes and materials. The same reasoning as above regardingthe material choice for the recycling bins can be applied to the material choicefor storage containers.
From a user perspective, the storage containers and/or the recyclingbins preferably have a lid. The lid may be useful for preventing odours comingout of the bins, for obstructing access and/or keeping the waste in the binsout of sight. An easy access to the bins is though preferable. From amanufacturing and from a user perspective, a prevention of a loss of the lidduring storage or transport of the storage container is desirable.
From a manufacturing and from a user perspective, the storagecontainers and the recycling bins preferably address the design criteria ofmaking efficient use of material, being possible to transport as flat-laid blanks,being easy to erect to form the storage container and the recycling bin, beingcapable of forming storage containers and recycling bins being stable when inuse and being capable of providing a lid. Preferably, this should be accomplished with a minimal use of adhesive, and especially preferablywithout the need for application of an adhesive at the site of use. Preferably,this should be accomplished without the need of tools.
An example of a storage container formed by folding a blank isdisclosed in 652446682. The document discloses a recycling wastecontainer comprising a plurality of bins. The recycling waste container isprovided with a common lid and holds the bins together as a unit. ln addition,each bin has an inlet in its side wall for depositing waste within the bin whilstthe common lid is closed. The inlet is closable by a pivotal flap. Each binincludes a hand hold aperture and a cutaway portion for securing a waste bagwithin the bin. All the bins fit in a common support base which also include asliding drawer. Each bin and the common base are formed from a respectivesheet of flexible material by a folding operation. The common lid is pivotallymounted on the base. The back wall of the recycling waste container has aflap that is joined to the edge of a side by a strong adhesive.
Thus, there is still a need to provide an improved concept of providinga storage container and/or recycling bin which from a manufacturing and froma user perspective, address one or more of the design criteria of makingefficient use of material, being possible to transport as flat-laid blanks, beingeasy to erect to form the storage container and the recycling bin, beingcapable of forming storage containers and recycling bins being stable when inuse, and being capable of providing a lid. Preferably, this should beaccomplished with a minimal use of adhesive, and especially preferablywithout the need for application of an adhesive at the site of use. Preferably,this should be accomplished without the need of tools.
Summary of inventionThe object of the invention is to provide an improved concept of providing a storage container and/or recycling bin for the convenient storageof different types of goods, such as recyclable waste, the concept of providinga storage container and/or recycling bin adequately addressing one or moreof the design criteria concerning making efficient use of material, being possible to transport as a flat-laid blank, being easy to erect to form a storagecontainer and/or recycling bin, and being capable of forming a stable storagecontainer capable of receiving one or more subcontainers, such as one ormore recycling bins. Preferably, this should be accomplished with a minimaluse of adhesive, and especially preferably without the need for application ofan adhesive at the site of use. Preferably, this should be accomplishedwithout the need of tools.
This object has in accordance with a first aspect been achieved by ablank configured to be erected into a storage container. The storage containeris configured to be capable of receiving one or more subcontainers, such asone or more recycling bins.
The blank comprises: a bottom panel, a rear wall panel and a lid panel arranged one after theother along a longitudinal direction as seen in flat-laid state of the blank, a first side panel foldably connected to a first transversal side of thebottom panel and a second side panel foldably connected to a secondtransversal side, opposite the first transversal side, of the bottom panel, one or more bottom front rim panels being configured to form a bottomfront rim and being foldably connected to a longitudinal side of the bottompanel being opposite to a longitudinal side of the bottom panel beingconnected to the rear wall panel, one or more lid front rim panels being configured to form a lid front rimand being foldably connected to a longitudinal side of the lid panel beingopposite to a longitudinal side of the lid panel being connected to the rear wallpaneL wherein the bottom front rim and the lid front rim together have a totalextension along the longitudinal direction being less than a longitudinalextension of the rear wall panel such that an open front is formed when theblank is erected into said storage container.
By designing the blank as stated above, there is provided a storagecontainer which is capable of receiving one or more subcontainers, such as one or more recycling bins. The storage container has a lid, which is formed from a lid panel forming part of the blank configured to be erected into thestorage container. The attachment of the lid panel prevents the loss of thepanel during transport and/or storage. The storage container has an openfront. The provision of an open front facilitates access to the subcontainers.I\/|oreover, the blank is easy to erect to form a storage container. Furthermore,the design of the blank allows a minimal use of adhesive. I\/|oreover, there isno need of special tools and/or skills to form the storage container of theblank. lt is further to be noted that the blank, configured to be erected into thestorage container, is easy to transport being a flat-laid blank when unfolded.
Through-out the description the phrase transversal side or transversaledge relates to a side or edge encountered when moving along thetransversal direction and the phrase longitudinal side or longitudinal edgerelates to a side or edge encountered when moving along the longitudinaldirection. For a rectangular panel a transversal side or edge will be positionedon a side as seen along the transversal direction and will have an extensionalong the longitudinal direction and a longitudinal side or edge will bepositioned on a side as seen along the longitudinal direction and will have anextension along the transversal direction.
The blank may further comprise a first attachment panel foldablyconnected to a longitudinal side of the first side panel and a secondattachment panel foldably connected to a longitudinal side of the second sidepanel, the first and the second attachment panels being configured to abutthe rear wall panel when the blank is erected into said storage container. Bythe provision of the attachment panels, the side panels are easily fixedrelative to the bottom panel and the rear wall panel. Thereby it is easy toprovide a stable and robust storage container. The provision of such designedattachment panels makes it easy to attach the attachment panels to the rearwall. They may be attached by providing a small amount of adhesive, such asa small amount of hot-melt glue. They may be attached by a simple staplingaction. They may be attached by an adhesive tape. The adhesive tape maybe an adhesive double-sided tape between the attachment panels and therear wall panel. The adhesive tape may be an adhesive single-sided tape extending from an attachment panel to the rear wall panel and optionally alsoto the other attachment panel.
The first and the second attachment panels may be configured to beadhesively attached to the rear wall panel when the blank is erected into saidstorage container. The adhesive manner of attachment facilitates forming ofthe storage container. The additional material needed for such adhesiveattachment is minimal. l\/loreover, the use of adhesive attachment facilitatesand provides a design-freedom in the design of the blank and the storagecontainer formed of the blank. l\/loreover, adhesive attachment removes theneed of special tools for forming the storage container.
The first and the second attachment panels may be configured to beadhesively attached to the rear wall panel by use of one or more adhesivestrips, the adhesive strips preferably being pre-attached to the rear wall panelor the attachment panels, preferably to the rear wall panel. The usage ofadhesive strips facilitates forming of the storage container. The result is thatthe procedure of forming the storage container becomes time-efficient andstraight forward. Pre-attachment of the adhesive strips makes the blankready-to-use. There is no need of special tools for forming the storagecontainer. As the strips are pre-attached, the customer does not need tohandle chemicals or tools that can be potentially injurious to health. Theadhesive strip may be formed of an adhesively double-sided tape with a firstside thereof being pre-attached to the rear wall panel or the attachmentpanels and a second side, opposite the first side, being covered by aprotective strip of material having a non-adhesive side facing away from therear wall panel or the attachment panels to which the adhesively double-sidedtape is pre-attached. Thus, the only part to be discarded after forming thestorage container is then a protective strip, such as a paper or plastic strip,pre-attached to the adhesive strip, which protective strip is removed justbefore the attaching of the attachment panels to the rear wall panel.
The side panels each may have a portion having an extension in thetransversal direction being equal to an extension of the rear wall panel in the longitudinal direction. Thereby, a transversal outer edge of said portion of the respective side wall panel will end up on the same height as the upper edgeof the rear wall panel. Thereby, said portion of the respective side wall mayform a support against which the |id panel rests when the |id is closed. Thus,said portions may be used to prevent the top |id panel from falling in directiontowards the rear wall panel when no subcontainer is inserted, or when thesubcontainer has a height lower than the height of the rear wall of the storagecontainer.
Said portions may have an extension in the longitudinal direction. Bydesigning the side walls such that said portions have an extension in thelongitudinal direction, stability is improved.
The extension in the longitudinal direction also provides protection tothe side panel, since the pressure from the |id panel, when shut, is distributedalong an upper edge - a transversal edge as seen in the flat-laid state - ofeach of the side panels.
The portion may be situated in connection with a longitudinal side ofthe respective side panel being configured to be situated at the rear wallpanel when the blank is erected into the storage container. Such configurationprovides stability to the storage container and still allows the side wall panelsto be designed such that the sides of the storage container are relativelyopen, since the portion will, when the blank is erected, be positioned basicallyas an extension from the rear wall panel.
An upper front corner portion of the respective side panel may bechamfered such that an upper front edge extending from the portion towardssaid one or more front rim panels is formed. The chamfering of said cornerportions extends the lifetime of the storage container. The reason is that saidcorner portions, if not chamfered, would be worn out faster. The cornerportions would be exposed to damages caused by insertion of thesubcontainer. The corner portions would, moreover, be exposed to damagescaused by shutting the |id panel. That would cause the corner portions beingslack and un-aesthetical. The corner portions may even cause inconvenience putting the subcontainer down as the corner portion may block the insertion of the subcontainer. Thus, the chamfering of the corner portions easies insertionof the subcontainers.
The lid front rim may comprise: a first and a second lid front rim panelarranged one after the other along a longitudinal direction as seen in flat-laidstate of the blank, the first lid front rim panel being foldably connected to thelid panel and the second lid front rim panel being foldably connected to thefirst lid front rim panel such that a double-walled lid front rim is formed. Bydesigning the blank as stated above, there is provided a storage containerwhich has a stable lid. The rear wall panel, the lid side panels, and the lidfront rim panels around the four sides of the lid panel may be said to form arim around the lid panel when the storage container is erected. Such adouble-walled lid front rim may be designed as self-locking by providinglocking protrusions or tabs on the second lid front rim panel, the lockingprotrusions or tabs being insertable into apertures in the fold line between thefirst lid front rim panel and the lid panel. A double-walled lid front rim may alsobe used to lock neighbouring portions of the lid rim in the desired position.
The blank may comprise: a lid side panel foldably connected to eachtransversal side of the lid panel, and a lid locking tab extending from alongitudinal side of each lid side panel and being configured to be positionedbetween the first and second lid front rim panels. The lid locking tabs may beconfigured to be folded towards a central portion of the respective lid front rimpanel to allow the lid locking tabs to be inserted between the transverselyopposing lid front rim panels when the first lid front rim panel is folded overthe second lid front rim panel and said lid front rim panels forming a double-walled lid rim panel. By the provision of the lid locking tabs, the lid front rimpanels and the lid side panels are easily fixed in the intended position. The lidlocking tabs may be said to form a part of the lid front rim and thereby alsobecome a part of the double-walled lid front rim. The provision of the lidlocking tabs makes it possible to keep the lid front rim and the lid side panelsin the intended position without the use of any adhesive.
The bottom front rim may comprise: a first and a second bottom front rim panel arranged one after the other along a longitudinal direction as seen in flat-laid state of the blank, the first bottom front rim panel being foldablyconnected to the bottom panel and the second bottom front rim panel beingfoldably connected to the first bottom front rim panel such that a double-walled bottom front rim is formed. By designing the blank as stated above,there is provided a stable storage container. The rear wall panel, the side wallpanels, and the bottom front rim around the four sides of the bottom panelmay be said to form a rim around the bottom panel when the storagecontainer is erected. By designing the blank as stated above, there isprovided a storage container having the bottom front rim that is stable androbust. l\/loreover, by providing such a rim, the subcontainer/-s stored in thestorage container is prevented from falling out. ln a preferred embodiment, the blank may comprise a bottom lockingtab extending from a longitudinal side of each side panel and beingconfigured to be positioned between the first and second bottom front rimpanels. The bottom locking tabs may be configured to be folded towards acentral portion of the respective bottom front rim panel to allow the bottomlocking tabs to be inserted between the transversely opposing bottom frontrim panels when the first bottom front rim panel is folded over the secondbottom front rim panel and said bottom front rim panels forming a double-walled bottom front rim panel. By the provision of the bottom locking tabs, thebottom front rim is easily fixed in the intended position. The bottom lockingtabs may be said to form part of the bottom front rim and thereby alsobecome a part of the double-walled bottom front rim. The provision of thebottom locking tabs makes it possible to keep the bottom front rim panel inthe intended position without the use of any adhesive. By designing the blankas stated above, there is provided a storage container having the bottom frontrim that is stable and robust.
According to a second aspect, the above object has also beenachieved by a kit of blanks comprising: the blank of the kind disclosed aboveand as disclosed in more detail below, the blank being configured to beerected into a storage container, and at least one subcontainer blankconfigured to be erected into a subcontainer. The subcontainer blank comprises a plurality of side walls foldably connected to each other one afterthe other along a transversal direction as seen in flat-laid state of thesubcontainer blank, and a plurality of bottom flaps being foldably connected tothe side walls and being configured to form a bottom wall of the subcontainerby being inwardly fo|ded and interlocked.
By designing the blanks as stated above, there are provided a stable storagecontainer and a subcontainer. Such kit is ready to be formed and used by acustomer. There is no need of searching for/ buying a subcontainer to besuitable for fitting into the storage container.
The subcontainer blank may comprise a first side wall, a second sidewall, a third side wall, a fourth side wall, and a tab foldably connected andarranged one after the other along a transversal direction as seen in flat-laidstate of the subcontainer blank. The tab may be configured to attach the firstside wall and the fourth side wall together. The subcontainer blank mayfurther comprise a first bottom flap foldably connected to a longitudinal side ofthe first side wall, a second bottom flap foldably connected to a longitudinalside of the second side wall, a third bottom flap foldably connected to alongitudinal side of the third side wall, and a fourth bottom flap foldablyconnected to a longitudinal side of the fourth side wall, wherein said bottomflaps are configured to form a bottom wall of the subcontainer by beinginwardly fo|ded and interlocked. ln the kit of blanks, the blanks may be formed of a paper-basedfoldable material. By providing such paper-based foldable material the blanksbecome easy to erect to form a storage container and a subcontainer andsince the weight of the material is typically comparably small the blankbecomes easy to transport from a weight perspective. A paper-based materialis often possible to recycle which addresses the criteria of providing anenvironmentally friendly storage container and subcontainer. l\/loreover,paper-based material belongs to an inexpensive group of materials. lt maybe noted that it is conceivable to use a paper-based foldable material as ablank for the storage container and another material for the subcontainers.The subcontainers may e.g. be formed of a foldable polymer-based material.
Alternatively, the subcontainers may be formed from a stiff material and mayas such be shaped in the final form or may as such be designed as stiffpanels being foldable about fold lines or hinges interconnecting the panels. lnthe kit of blanks, the blanks may be formed of a water-resistant material,preferably by providing a polymer-based coating on a paper-based foldablematerial. By providing the kit of blanks of such a water-resistant material, itreduces the risk that water content in the waste damages the material and itmakes it easier for the customer to clean surfaces of the storage containerand the subcontainer. That extends the lifetime of the storage container andthe subcontainer as they stay fresh for a longer time. Furthermore, usage ofthe water-resistant material makes the storage container and thesubcontainer more hygienical. As the storage container and the subcontainercan be cleaned/ washed, there is no need of a plastic/paper bag inside thestorage container and the subcontainer in order to keep them clean.Therefore, the environmental impact of throwing waste can be furtherdecreased. lt may be noted that it is conceivable to use different materials,when it comes to water-resistance, in the storage container and in thesubcontainers. lt is e.g. conceivable to have the inside of the subcontainersbeing provided with a water-resistant coating. lt is conceivable to provide awater-resistant coating on the inside of the storage container to improve itsresistance to water originating from the waste thrown in the subcontainers.Alternatively, or as a complement, it is conceivable to provide a water-resistant coating on the outside of the storage container to improve itsresistance to water originating from the outside environment. lt is alsoconceivable that only one of the blanks is made water-resistant and that theother e.g. is made of a paper-based material not being made water-resistant.ln short the invention may be said to relate to a blank configured to be erected into a storage container configured to receive one or moresubcontainers, the blank comprising: a bottom panel, a rear wall panel and alid panel, a first and a second side panel foldably connected to a respectivetransversal side of the bottom panel, one or more bottom front rim panels being configured to form a bottom front rim, one or more lid front rim panels being configured to form a lid front rim, wherein the bottom front rim and thelid front rim together have a total extension along the Iongitudinal directionbeing less than a longitudinal extension of the rear wall panel such that anopen front is formed when the blank is erected into said storage container.Generally, all terms used in the claims are to be interpreted according to their ordinary meaning in the technical field, unless explicitlydefined otherwise herein. All references to "a/an/the [element, device,component, means, step, etc]" are to be interpreted openly as referring to atleast one instance of said element, device, component, means, step, etc.,unless explicitly stated otherwise. Detailed description of the preferred embodimentsWith reference to figure 1, there is disclosed a blank 1 configured to beerected into a storage container 100 (figure 2). The blank has an extension in a longitudinal direction L, and an extension in a transversal direction T, asseen in a flat-laid state of the blank 1. As evident from figure 1, the blank 1 isprovided with fold lines and cuts which define different parts and panels beingconfigured to form the storage container. Generally, solid lines represent cutlines and dotted lines represent fold lines. The storage container 100 isconfigured to be capable of receiving one or more subcontainers that may berecycling containers/bins.
The blank 1 comprises: a bottom panel 10, a rear wall panel 20 and alid panel 30, arranged one after the other along a longitudinal direction L asseen in flat-laid state of the blank. The blank 1 further comprises a first sidepanel 11 foldably connected to a first transversal side of the bottom panel 10and a second side panel 13 foldably connected to a second transversal side,opposite the first transversal side, of the bottom panel 10. The blank 1 furthercomprises one or more bottom front rim panels 12a, 12b, being configured toform a bottom front rim 12 and being foldably connected to a longitudinal sideof the bottom panel 10 being opposite to a longitudinal side of the bottompanel 10 being connected to the rear wall panel 20. The blank 1 furthercomprises one or more lid front rim panels 32a, 32b, being configured to forma lid front rim 32 and being foldably connected to a longitudinal side of the lidpanel 30 being opposite to a longitudinal side of the lid panel 30 beingconnected to the rear wall panel 20, wherein the bottom front rim 12 and thelid front rim 32 together have a total extension d12, dsz along the longitudinaldirection L being less than a longitudinal extension of the rear wall panel 20such that an open front is formed when the blank 1 is erected into the storagecontainer 100. The bottom panel 10 constitutes the bottom of the storagecontainer 100. The bottom of the storage container 100 is the part beingtypically horizontal to the ground.
The bottom panel 10 is defined by four fold lines: a fold line FL11between the bottom panel 10 and the first bottom front rim panel 12a, a foldline FL12 between the bottom panel 10 and the first side panel 11, a fold lineFL13 between the bottom panel 10 and the second side panel 13, and a foldline FL14 between the bottom panel 10 and the rear wall panel 20.
The rear wall panel 20 is defined by two fold lines: the fold line FL14 betweenthe bottom panel 10 and the rear wall panel 20, and a fold line FL15 betweenthe rear wall panel 20 and the lid panel 30. The lid panel 30 is defined by twofold lines: the fold line FL15 between the rear wall panel 20 and the lid panel30, and a fold line FL16 between the lid panel 30 and the first lid front rimpanel32a.
The bottom panel 10 may be configured to be perpendicular to the rearwall panel 20, to the first and the second side panels 11, 13, and preferablyalso to the bottom front rim 12, when the blank 1 is erected into the storagecontainer 100. The bottom panel 10 may also be parallel to a top surface 30when the blank 1 is erected into the storage container 100.
Fig. 1 further discloses the first side panel 11 that may be foldablyconnected to a first transversal side of the bottom panel 10, and the secondside panel 13 foldably connected to a second transversal side, opposite thefirst transversal side, of the bottom panel 10. The first side panel 11 is anextension of the bottom panel 10 in a direction opposite the transversaldirection T and is defined by the fold line FL12 between the bottom panel 10and the first side panel 11. The second side panel 13 is an extension of thebottom panel 10 in the transversal direction T and is defined by the fold lineFL13 between the bottom panel 10 and the second side panel 13.
The blank 1 may also comprise a first attachment panel 22 foldablyconnected to a longitudinal side of the first side panel 11, and a secondattachment panel 24 foldably connected to a longitudinal side of the secondside panel 13. The first and the second attachment panels 22, 24 areconfigured to abut the rear wall panel 20, when the blank 1 is erected intosaid storage container 100. The first attachment panel 22 is an extension ofthe first side panel 11 in the longitudinal direction L and is defined by a foldline FL22 between the first side panel 11 and the first attachment panel 22.The second attachment panel 24 is an extension of the second side panel 13in the longitudinal direction L and is defined by a fold line FL24 between thesecond side panel 13 and the second attachment panel 24. Each attachmentpanel 22 and 24 may have another shape than disclosed in Figure 1. The attachment panels 22 and 24 may differ in length and/or height, which is notdisclosed in Figure 1. The first and the second attachment panels 22, 24 maybe configured to be attached to a major surface of the rear wall panel 20. Themajor surface may be a major surface configured to form an inside surface ofthe storage container 100. According to another embodiment, the first and thesecond attachment panels 22, 24 may be configured to be attached to amajor surface of the rear wall panel 20 being configured to form an outsidesurface of the storage container 100. The attaching position of the first andthe second attachment panels 22, 24, in relation to the rear wall panel 20,may depend on the intention of use of the storage container 100. Attachmentof the first and the second attachment panels 22, 24 to the outside surface ofthe rear wall panel 20 may benefit lifetime of the storage container 100 due tothe upper corners of the attachment panels not being exposed to the frictionoccurring when a subcontainer is inserted into the storage container 100. Onthe other hand, attachment of the first and the second attachment panels 22,24 to the inside surface of the rear wall panel 20 may benefit aestheticalappearance of the storage container, which may be preferred during use ofthe storage container 100 during, for example, an exhibition. l\/loreover, itreduces the risk that a person walking by the storage container 100accidentally cuts himself on the otherwise exposed upper edges of theattachment panels 22, 24.
The first and the second attachment panels 22, 24 may be of adifferent shape than the shape shown in Figure 1. Other shapes can be usefulfor various purposes, especially when the first and the second attachmentpanels 22, 24 are attached to the outside surface of the rear wall panel 20.Such other shapes may also be useful to reduce the risk that a personwalking by the storage container 100 accidentally cuts himself on the exposededges of the attachment panels 22, 24.
The first and the second attachment panels 22, 24 may be configuredto be adhesively attached to the rear wall panel 20 when the blank 1 iserected into said storage container 100. The adhesive attachment of the rearwall panel 20 to the first and the second attachment panels 22, 24, when the blank is erected into said storage container 100, may be achieved by use ofglue and/or adhesive strips 62, 64.
The first and the second attachment panels 22, 24 may be configuredto be adhesively attached to the rear wall panel 20 by use of one or moreadhesive strips 62, 64, the adhesive strips 62, 64 preferably being pre-attached to the rear wall panel 20 or said attachment panels 22, 24,preferably to the rear wall panel 20. The adhesive strips 62, 64 may be pre-attached during manufacturing process. Such pre-attached adhesive strips62, 64 is preferably adhesively double-sided strips 62, 64 with the exposedsurface being covered by a non-adhesive strip, such as paper strip.
The adhesive strips 62, 64 may be unmounted strips. The unmountedstrips may, for example, be sold/provided separately and/or be attached asseparate units when sold/provided. The adhesive may be attached to the firstand the second attachment panels 22, 24 and/or on the rear wall panel 20.
The first side panel 11 may have a portion 11a having an extension d1ain the transversal direction T being equal to an extension dza in thelongitudinal direction L of a first transversal side 20a of the rear wall panel 20.The second side panel 13 may have a portion 13a having an extension dm inthe transversal direction T being equal to an extension dzb in the longitudinaldirection L of a second transversal side 20b of the rear wall panel 20. Saidextensions dia, dib of the side panels 11, 13 may differ from each other inlength. lt is preferred that at least one, more preferably both, of the sidepanels 11, 13 have an upper edge on the same height as the upper edge ofthe rear wall 20.
The portion 11a of the first side panel 11 having an extension dia in thetransversal direction T may have an extension dsa in the longitudinal directionL. The portion 13a of the second side panel 13 having an extension dm in thetransversal direction T may have an extension dsb in the longitudinal directionL. Preferably, the extension dsa and/or the extension dsb in the longitudinaldirection L is at least 10% of the longitudinal extension d4 of the bottom panel . Preferably, the extension dsa and/or the extension dsb in longitudinal direction L is less than 75% of the extension d4 of the longitudinal extensionof the bottom panel 10.
Said portions 11a, 13a may be situated such that they extend along thefold lines FL22, FL24 between the side panels 11, 13 and the respectiveattachment panel 22, 24. Said portions 11a, 13a may though be configureddifferently than shown in figure 1. They may for example be situated at adistance from the fold line FL22, FL24 such that the upper edges formed bysaid portions 11a, 13a will be situated at a distance from the longitudinalsides 20a, 20b of the rear wall panel 20.
An upper front corner portion of the respective side panel 11, 13 maybe chamfered such that an upper front edge 11b, 13b extending from theportion 11a, 13a towards said one or more bottom front rim panel 12a, 12b isformed. lf there are first and second bottom locking tabs 17, 19, as will bediscussed in detail below, present, the upper front edge 11b, 13b extendspreferably towards the transversal outer edge of such first and second bottomlocking tabs 17, 19. The chamfering of said corner may be shaped along astraight line, as exemplified in Figure 1. The chamfering may extend along aline of a different shape than the one disclosed in figure 1. The line may, forexample, be curved or wavy, but is not limited to said examples. Choice of theline shape may depend on the preferred appearance of the storage container.lt is preferred that no sharp angles are formed.
The lid front rim may comprise: a first and a second lid front rim panel,32a and 32b, arranged one after the other along a longitudinal direction L asseen in flat-laid state of the blank 1, the first lid front rim panel 32a foldablyconnected to the lid panel 30 and the second lid front rim panel 32b foldablyconnected to the first lid front rim panel 32a such that a double-walled lid frontrim is formed. Such design of double-walled lid front rim panel results in a rimcomprising two-layer material. The first lid front rim panel 32a is an extensionof the lid panel 30 in the longitudinal direction L and is defined by two foldlines: the fold line FL16 between the lid panel 30 and the first lid front rimpanel 32a, and a fold line FL18 between and the first lid front rim panel 32aand the second lid front rim panel 32b. The second lid front rim panel 32b is an extension of the first lid front rim panel 32a in the longitudinal direction Land is defined by the fold line FL18 between the second lid front rim panel32b and the first lid front rim panel 32a. The fold line FL18 may be two linesseparated a short distance to take into account the thickness of the materialof the blank 1.
The blank 1 may further comprise a first and second lid side panel 36,38 foldably connected to each transversal side of the lid panel 30, andextending therefrom in the transversal direction T, as seen in flat-laid state ofthe blank 1. The first lid side panel 36 is defined by a fold line FL20 betweenthe lid panel 30 and the first lid side panel 36. The second lid side panel 38 isdefined by a fold line FL22 between the lid panel 30 and the second lid sidepanel38.
The blank 1 may further comprise a first and second lid locking tabs37, 39 foldably attached to the first and the second lid side panels 36, 38arranged extending from a longitudinal side of the respective first and secondlid side panels 36, 38, along the longitudinal direction L alongside theextension of the lid front rim panels 32a, 32b from the lid panel 30, as seen inflat-laid state of the blank 1. The first lid locking tab 37 is defined by a fold lineFL24 between the first lid locking tab 37 and the first lid side panel 36. Thesecond lid locking tab 39 is defined by a fold line FL26 between the second lidlocking tab 39 and the second lid side panel 37. The lid locking tabs 37, 39may be configured to be positioned between the first and second lid front rimpanels 32a, 32b. Thus, a mechanical lock is provided configured to hold thedouble-walled lid rim panel in place and prevent it from being unintentionallyunfolded. Each lid locking tab 37 and 39 may have another shape thandisclosed in figure 1.
The bottom front rim 12 may comprise: a first and a second bottomfront rim panel 12a, 12b arranged one after the other along the longitudinaldirection L, as seen in flat-laid state of the blank 1, wherein the first bottomfront rim panel 12a is foldably connected to the bottom panel 10 and thesecond bottom front rim panel 12b is foldably connected to the first bottomfront rim panel 12a, such that a double-walled bottom front rim is formed. The first and second bottom front rim panels 12a, 12b may be configured to befolded into a double-walled bottom front rim 12, which results in a rimcomprising two-layer material. The first bottom front rim panel 12a is anextension of the bottom panel 10 in the Iongitudinal direction L and is definedby two fold lines: the fold line FL11 between the bottom panel 10 and the firstbottom front rim panel 12a, and a fold line FL 26 between the first bottomfront rim panel 12a and the second bottom front rim panel 12b. The secondbottom front rim panel 12b is an extension of the first bottom front rim panel12a in the Iongitudinal direction L and is defined by the fold line FL 26between the second bottom front rim panel 12b and the first bottom front rimpanel 12a. The fold line FL26 may be two fold lines separated a shortdistance to take into account the thickness of the material of the blank 1.
The blank 1 may further comprise a first and second bottom lockingtabs 17, 19 extending from a Iongitudinal side of the first respectively thesecond side panels 11, 13. The first and second bottom locking tabs 17, 19may be foldably attached to the first respectively the second side panel 11, 13and extend from the first respectively the second side panel 11, 13 along theIongitudinal direction L, alongside the extension of the bottom rim panels 12a,12b from the bottom panel 10, as seen in flat-laid state of the blank 1. Thefirst bottom locking tab 17 is defined by a fold line FL27 between the firstbottom locking tab 17 and the first side panel 11. The second bottom lockingtab 19 is defined by a fold line FL28 between the second bottom locking tab19 and the second side panel 13. The first and second bottom locking tabs17, 19 may be configured to be positioned between the first and secondbottom front rim panels 12a, 12b. Thereby, a mechanical lock is providedconfigured to hold the double-walled lid rim panel in place and prevent it frombeing unintentionally unfolded. Each bottom locking tab 17, 19 may haveanother shape than disclosed in figure 1.
The bottom panel 10 may be configured to be perpendicular to the rearwall panel 20, to the first and the second side panels 11, 13, and to the bottom front rim 12 when the storage container 100 is erected. The bottom panel 10 may be parallel to the top surface 30 when said storage container100 is erected.
As seen in figure 1, the storage container 100 may be configured tocomprise one or more lid rim locking apertures 40 formed at the fold line FL16between the lid panel 30 and the first lid front rim panel 32a. The blank mayhave an extension from the second lid front rim panel 32b in a longitudinaldirection L, as seen in a flat-laid state of the blank 1, forming one or more lidrim locking tabs 35. The lid rim locking aperture 40 and the lid rim locking tab35 may be used for locking the second lid front rim panel 32b in a foldedposition when folded into the double-walled lid rim panel by placing the lid rimlocking tab 35 into the lid rim locking aperture 40. Thus, a mechanical lock isprovided configured to hold the double-walled lid rim panel in place andprevent it from being unintentionally unfolded. The lid rim locking aperture 40and the lid rim locking tab 35 may be of another form and/or placed differentlythan disclosed in figure 1.
As seen in figure 1, the storage container 100 may be configured tocomprise one or more bottom rim locking apertures 16 formed at the fold linebetween the bottom panel 10 and the first bottom front rim panel 12a. Theblank may have an extension from the second bottom front rim panel 12b in alongitudinal direction L, as seen in a flat-laid state of the blank 1, forming oneor more bottom rim locking tabs 15. The bottom rim locking aperture 16 andthe bottom rim locking tab 15 may be used for locking the second bottom frontrim panel 12b in a folded position when folded into the double-walled bottomrim panel by placing the bottom rim locking tab 15 into the bottom rim lockingaperture 16. Thus, a mechanical lock is provided configured to hold thedouble-walled bottom rim panel in place and prevent it from beingunintentionally unfolded. The bottom rim locking aperture 16 and the bottomrim locking tab 15 may be of another form and/or placed differently thandisclosed in figure 1.
With reference to figure 2, there is disclosed a blank 2 configured to beerected into a subcontainer 200. The blank 2 has an extension in a longitudinal direction L, and an extension in a transversal direction T, as seen in a flat-laid state of the blank 1. As evident from figure 2, the blank 2 isprovided with fold lines and cuts which define different panels beingconfigured to form the subcontainer. The subcontainer 200 is configured to becapable of receiving objects, for example waste.
The subcontainer blank 2 may comprise a first side wall 210, a secondside wall 212, a third side wall 214, a fourth side wall 216, and a tab 218arranged and foldably connected one after the other along a transversaldirection T as seen in flat-laid state of the subcontainer blank 2. The tab 218is configured to join the first side wall 210 and the fourth side wall 212together. The subcontainer blank 2 may further comprise a first bottom flap220, foldably connected to a longitudinal side of the first side wall 210, asecond bottom flap 222, foldably connected to a longitudinal side of thesecond side wall 212, a third bottom flap 224, foldably connected to alongitudinal side of the third side wall 214, a fourth bottom flap 226, foldablyconnected to a longitudinal side of the fourth side wall 216, wherein saidbottom flaps 220, 222, 224, 226 are configured to form a bottom wall of thesubcontainer 200 by being inwardly folded and interlocked.
The second side wall 212 is an extension of the first side wall 210 inthe transversal direction T and is defined by two fold lines: a fold line FL40between the second side wall 212 and the first side wall 210, and a fold lineFL42 between the second side wall 212 and the third side wall 214. The thirdside wall 214 is an extension of the second side wall 212 in the transversaldirection T and is defined by two fold lines: the fold line FL42 between thesecond side wall 212 and the third side wall 214, and a fold line FL44between the fourth side wall 216 and the third side wall 214. The fourth sidewall 216 is an extension of the third side wall 214 in the transversal directionT and is defined by two fold lines: a fold line FL44 between the third side wall214 and the fourth side wall 216, and a fold line FL46 between the fourth sidewall 216 and the tab 218.
The first bottom flap 220 is an extension of the first side wall 210 in thelongitudinal direction L and is defined by a fold line FL50 between the firstside wall 210 and the first bottom flap 220. The second bottom flap 222 is an extension of the second side wall 212 in the longitudinal direction L and isdefined by a fold FL52 line between the second side wall 212 and the secondbottom flap 222. The third bottom flap 224 is an extension of the third sidewall 214 in the Iongitudinal direction L and is defined by a fold line FL54between the third side wall 214 and the third bottom flap 224. The fourthbottom flap 226 is an extension of the fourth side wall 216 in the longitudinaldirection L and is defined by a fold line FL56 between the fourth side wall 216and the fourth bottom flap 226.
The bottom flaps 220, 222, 224, 226 are configured to form a bottomwall of the subcontainer 200, by being inwardly folded and interlocked. Thepossibility of interlocking the bottom flaps 220, 222, 224, 226 may beachieved by designing the first bottom flap 220 and the third bottom flap 224as shown in figure 2, for example by the first bottom flap 220 having anaperture 232, and the third bottom flap 224 having a tab 231, extending in alongitudinal direction L from the bottom flap 224, configured to be insertedinto said aperture 232 of the first bottom flap 220. The interlocking may beachieved by using of adhesive in order to attach said bottom flaps 220, 222,224, 226 in any way to each other. The interlocking may even be achieved byusing of staples in order to attach said bottom flaps 220, 222, 224, 226 in anyway to each other. The method of the interlocking is not limited to theexamples given.
As shown in figure 2, the tab 218 is configured to connect the first sidewall 210 and the fourth side wall 216 together. Connection of the first sidewall 210 and the fourth side wall 216 together may be performed by using anadhesive. The first side wall 210 and the fourth side wall 216 may be attachedtogether by using staples.
As shown in figure 2, the blank 2 may have apertures 230 forminghandles. The apertures 230 may be formed at the second side wall 212 andthe fourth side wall 216.
The blanks 1 and 2 disclosed in figures 1 and 2 may be said totogether form a kit of blanks. The blank 1 configured to be erected into astorage container 100, and the subcontainer blank 2 configured to be erected into a subcontainer 200 may be used together as a recycling storage unitwhen erected. The parts may though be used separately. lt may be noted thatthe kit of blanks preferably comprises one blank 1 configured to be erectedinto a storage container 100 and a plurality of blanks 2 configured to beerected into subcontainers 200.
Figure 3 discloses the storage container 100 of blank 1 having threesubcontainers 200 of blank 2 inserted in the storage container 100 and showsthe storage container 100 with the lid shut.
Figure 4 discloses the storage container 100 of blank 1 having threesubcontainers 200 of blank 2 inserted in the storage container 100 and showsthe storage container 100 with the lid partially opened.
Figure 5 discloses the storage container 100 of blank 1having twosubcontainers 200 of blank 2 inserted in the storage container 100 and showsthe storage container 100 with the lid fully opened. ln figure one subcontainer200 has been lifted out of the storage container 100. lt is contemplated that there are numerous modifications of theembodiments described herein, which are still within the scope of theinvention as defined by the appended claims.
Additionally, variations to the disclosed embodiments can beunderstood and effected by the skilled person in practicing the claimedinvention, from a study of the drawings, the disclosure, and the appendedclaims. ln the claims, the word "comprising" does not exclude other elementsor steps, and the indefinite article "a" or "an" does not exclude a plurality. Themere fact that certain measures are recited in mutually different dependentclaims does not indicate that a combination of these measured cannot beused to advantage.

Claims (15)

1. A blank (1) configured to be erected into a storage container (100)configured to receive one or more subcontainers (200), the blank (1)comprising: a bottom panel (10), a rear wall panel (20) and a lid panel (30)arranged one after the other along a longitudinal direction (L) as seen in flat-laid state of the blank (1 ), a first side panel (11) foldably connected to a first transversal side ofthe bottom panel (10) and a second side panel (13) foldably connected to asecond transversal side, opposite the first transversal side, of the bottompanel (10), one or more bottom front rim panels (12a, 12b) being configured toform a bottom front rim and being foldably connected to a longitudinal side ofthe bottom panel (10) being opposite to a longitudinal side of the bottompanel (10) being connected to the rear wall panel (20), one or more lid front rim panels (32a, 32b) being configured to form alid front rim and being foldably connected to a longitudinal side of the lid panel(30) being opposite to a longitudinal side of the lid panel (30) being connectedto the rear wall panel (20), wherein the bottom front rim and the lid front rim together have a totalextension (d12, dag) along the longitudinal direction (L) being less than alongitudinal extension of the rear wall panel (20) such that an open front isformed when the blank (1) is erected into said storage container (100).
2. The blank (1) according to claim 1, wherein the blank (1) furthercomprises a first attachment panel (22) foldably connected to a longitudinalside of the first side panel (11) and a second attachment panel (24) foldablyconnected to a longitudinal side of the second side panel (13), the first andthe second attachment panels (22, 24) being configured to abut the rear wall panel (20) when the blank (1) is erected into said storage container (100).
3. The blank (1) according to claim 2, wherein the first and the secondattachment panels (22, 24) are configured to be adhesively attached to therear wall panel (20) when the blank (1) is erected into said storage container(100).
4. The blank (1) according to claim 3, wherein the first and the secondattachment panels (22, 24) are configured to be adhesively attached to therear wall panel (20) by use of one or more adhesive strips (62, 64), theadhesive strips (62, 64) preferably being pre-attached to the rear wall panel (20) or the attachment panels (22, 24), preferably to the rear wall panel (20).
5. The blank (1) according to any one of claims 1-4, wherein the sidepanels (11, 13) each has a portion (11a, 13a) having an extension (dia) in thetransversal direction (T) being equal to an extension (dza) of the rear wallpanel (20) in the longitudinal direction (L).
6. The blank (1) according to claim 5, wherein the portion (11a, 13a) has an extension (dsa, dsb) in the longitudinal direction (L).
7. The blank (1) according to claim 5 or 6, wherein the portion (11a,13a) is situated in connection with a longitudinal side of the respective sidepanel (11, 13) being configured to be situated at the rear wall panel (20) when the blank (1) is erected into the storage container (100).
8. The blank (1) according to claim 7, wherein an upper front cornerportion of the respective side panel (11, 13) is chamfered such that an upperfront edge (1 1 b, 13b) extending from the portion (11a, 13a) towards said oneor more bottom front rim panels (12a, 12b) is formed.
9. The blank (1) according to any one of claims 1-8, wherein the lid front rim comprises: a first and a second lid front rim panel (32a, 32b) arranged one afterthe other along the Iongitudinal direction (L) as seen in flat-laid state of theblank (1), the first lid front rim panel (32a) being foldably connected to the lidpanel (30) and the second lid front rim panel (32b) being foldably connectedto the first lid front rim panel (32a) such that a double-walled lid front rim isformed.
10. The blank (1) according to claim 9, wherein the blank (1)comprises: a lid side panel (36, 38) foldably connected to each transversal side ofthe lid panel (30), and a lid locking tab (37, 39) extending from a Iongitudinal side of each lidside panel (36, 38) and being configured to be positioned between the firstand second lid front rim panels (32a, 32b).
11. The blank (1) according to any one of claims 1-10, wherein thebottom front rim comprises: a first and a second bottom front rim panel (12a, 12b) arranged oneafter the other along the Iongitudinal direction (L) as seen in flat-laid state ofthe blank (1 ), the first bottom front rim panel (12a) being foldably connected to thebottom panel (10) and the second bottom front rim panel (12b) being foldablyconnected to the first bottom front rim panel (12a) such that a double-walledbottom front rim (12) is formed.
12. The blank (1) according to claim 11, wherein the blank (1)comprises: a bottom locking tab (17, 19) extending from a Iongitudinal side of eachside panel (11, 13) and being configured to be positioned between the first and second bottom front rim panels (12a, 12b).
13. A kit of blanks comprising: the blank (1) according to any one of claims 1-12, configured to beerected into a storage container (100), and a subcontainer blank (2) configured to be erected into asubcontainer (200), the subcontainer blank comprising: a plurality of side walls (210, 212, 214, 216) foldably connected to eachother one after the other along a transversal direction (T) as seen in flat-laidstate of the subcontainer blank (2), and a plurality of bottom flaps (220, 222, 224, 226) being foldablyconnected to the side walls (210, 212, 214, 216) and being configured to forma bottom wall of the subcontainer (200) by being inwardly folded andinterlocked.
14. The kit of blanks according to claim 13, wherein the blank (1)according to any one of claims 1-12 and/or the subcontainer blank (2) isformed of a paper-based foldable material.
15. The kit of blanks according to claim 13 or 14, wherein the blank (1)according to any one of claims 1-12 and/or the subcontainer blank (2) isformed of a water-resistant material, preferably by providing a polymer-basedcoating on a paper-based foldable material.
