Abstract

A converter comprises a string of cells between a first and a second DC terminal (DC1, DC2), the string having a midpoint forming a first AC terminal (AC1) and diving the string into an upper and a lower arm, each arm comprising a first block of cells (S1, S(n/2)+1) and a last block of cells (Sn/2, Sn), wherein the last block (Sn/2) of the upper arm has a first end connected to the previous arm blocks (S(n/2)-1; S(n/2)-2, S1) via a first connection point (CP1) and the first block (S(n/2)+1)) of the lower arm has a second end connected to the following arm blocks (S(n/2)+2, S(n/2)+3), Sn) via a second connection point (CP2) and a capacitor (C1) is connected between the connection points (CP1, CP2).
