Description

S LAT WALL Field of invention The present invention relates to a slat wall and a method for manufacturing a slat wall.
Technical Background Slat walls are commonly used to display articles instores. Slat walls usually comprise a plurality ofhorizontal panel strips separated by hook defininggrooves which are adapted to receive display elements,In the art, slat walls such as eurohangers, shelves etc. are often made of panels of e.g. MDF or HDF, which panelscomprise milled out grooves running horizontally from oneedge to the opposite edge of the panel. Usually insertsof e.g. aluminum are inserted into the milled grooves.
The grooves, and the inserts, usually have t-shapedprofiles in order for mutually engaging display elementsto be hooked on the grooves.
The slat walls used in the art are usually veryheavy and cumbersome to handle. In recent years, boardsbased on a core sandwiched between printable facingsheets have been commonly used to replace traditionalboard material, such as MDF, furniture,EPl7l4776Al discloses a light-weight wood fiber based board of the in e.g.advertising signs and in commercial stands.above mentioned sandwiched-type, wherein the flutes orchannels are tilted in relation to the facing sheets.Such a construction gives rise to an increased strength, since the effective contact between the walls of thestructure is increased.
It would be a desire to provide slat walls that are light and easy to handle, e.g. by providing slat walls made of light-weight boards. However, the current designsof slat walls do not allow use of light-weight boardssince it would be very hard to mill out t-shaped channels in this kind of material.
Summary of invention It is an object of the invention to provide a slatwall that is easy to handle and simple to manufacture.
This object, as well as other advantages, isachieved by the present invention.
The present invention relates to a slat wall formedas a three dimensional body with a predetermined height, width and thickness. The slat wall of the inventioncomprises a core, presenting a first and a second faceand at least one groove extending inwardly from the firstface of the core and having a length extending in thedirection of the width of the slat wall. An insertcomprising at least one wall which defines a cavity, isarranged in said groove, and at least one covering layercovers the first face of the core and a part of thegroove. The slat wall further comprises a slit runningthrough the covering layer and through the wall of thewhich slit has an extension in the direction ofthe width of the slat wall.
The slit, insert, through which the cavity of the insert is accessible, forms a receiving groove for receiving display elements. Thus, mutually engaging means of display elements, such as eurohangers, can be hooked on said receiving groove. The design of the slat wallenables the manufacturing of a receiving groove with a T-shaped profile without the need to mill out such a use of all kinds of profile in the core. In this way, materials, such as light-weight boards are made possible.
The length of the slit may be shorter than the widthof the slat wall.the slat wall is enabled.
The height of the slit may be less than the height In this way, a more pleasant design of of the groove. This contributes to the T-shaped profileof the receiving groove.
The groove formed in the core, may extend inwardlyfrom the first face of the core in a direction that formsan angle of at least 90 degrees to the first face of thecore. This facilitates the formation of the groove, especially in light-weight materials.
The core of the slat wall may be of a light weightboard and may comprise cellulose fibers. In oneembodiment, the core presents a wall structure defining aplurality of channels, each channel having a longitudinalaxis intersecting the first face at an angle which isless than 90 degrees. A slat wall comprising such amaterial is strong, which facilitates the handling of the slat wall. but yet extremely light, The at least one covering layer may be made of wood, such as of medium or hard density fiber board, metal or plastic. Preferably, the slat wall further comprising a second covering layer, laminated onto said at least onecovering layer. The second covering layer may be aprintable film, such as a film made of polyester or aplastic sheet. The printable film enables decorativeprints to be made on the slat wall and thus contributesto a beautiful appearance.
The present invention further relates to a methodfor manufacturing a slat wall comprising the steps of; - providing a core presenting a first and a secondface, - forming at least one groove extending inwardly from the first face of the core, - inserting an insert, comprising at least one wall defining a cavity, into said groove, - laminating at least one covering layer onto thefirst face of the core - forming a slit through the covering layer andthrough the wall of the insert The method of the invention enables light, but yetfunctional, slat walls with beautiful appearances to be manufactured in an easy way.
Brief description of the drawings Fig. l shows a slat wall, mounted on a wall, in accordance with an example of the invention.
Fig. 2 shows a cross-sectional side view of the slatwall in Fig. l as seen from an imaginary cut line, Cl.Fig. 3 shows an example of an insert of a slat wall.
Detailed description The slat wall of the invention is formed as a threedimensional body that may be removably mounted on a wall. The slat wall comprises a front side defining severalslats at least partly separated by slits. The lengths ofthe slits in the horizontal direction may be shorter thanthe width of the slat wall. In this way, a pleasantdesign may be achieved. The slat wall comprises a core, which core comprises grooves wherein inserts areinserted. Each insert comprises at least one wall thatcovers thein the so that the defines a cavity. A covering layer or layerscore and part of the grooves. Slits are madecovering layer and in the wall of the insertcavity of the inserts is accessible through the slits. The design of the slat wall of the invention enablesThe core of the slat wall may e.g. be made of a light weight use of materials that otherwise might be hard to use. fiber based board such as the one described in EPEPl7l4776Al. based on a core that present a first and a second face The light weight fiber based board may be and comprises corrugated and stacked sheets that formThe flutes or channels may be tiltedThus, flutes or channels.in relation to the first face. the longitudinalaxis of the channels may intersect the first face at anangle which is less than 90 degrees. Such a constructiongives rise to a light board with an increased strength. The corrugated sheets forming the core may be of woodfiber based material, such as paper or cardboard. Thelight weight board may also comprise facing sheetslaminated onto said first and second face. The board mayfurther comprise edge liners that are attached to theside portions of the core, thus to the portions of thecore that are connecting the first and the second facesof the core.
In the manufacturing of the slat wall of theinvention, grooves are formed in a core of a light-weightmaterial. The grooves are formed so that they have anextension in the horizontal direction of the core, preferably the grooves run from one side of the core tothe other. slat wall, Several grooves are preferably made in theat a distance to each other. The grooves arepreferably made by milling.
Inserts, comprising at least one wall defining a cavity, are inserted into the grooves. The inserts arepreferably made of plastic but may also be made of otheraluminum. materials such as metals, The inserts may e.g.e.g. be formed by extrusion. After the inserts are inserted into the grooves, acovering layer is laminated onto the core so that itcovers the surface of the core as well as the grooves andthe inserts. A slit is formed through the covering layerand through the wall of the insert so that the cavity ofthe insert is accessible through the slit. The slit may be formed by milling. A covering layer or layers may also the rear side, of On the rear side of the slat wall, be laminated onto the second side, i.e. the core. means formounting the slat wall on a wall may also be formed orattached.
The slat wall of the invention will now be describedin more details by way of an example.l shows a slat wall (l) Fig. according to one example of the invention.
