Abstract

The method involves using an oxygen sensor element for determining air ratio value (2) in exhaust gas of an internal-combustion engine. Air ratio in an engine operating point is measured during detection of characteristic size of the point, which is concluded by using measured air ratio from a characteristic functional connection of fuel class and air ratio of the fuel class. Functional connection of the fuel class and the air ratio, which is designated to the engine operating point is represented by a characteristic diagram. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program for classifying fuel in direct injection internal-combustion engine (2) a computer program product with program code, which is stored on a machine-readable medium for classifying fuel in direct injection internal-combustion engine.
