Abstract

The present invention relates to an arrangement (1) for a sailing boat (2) or some other vessel which exhibits a pivoting boom (3) and which is so arranged as to restrict the rapid pivoting movement of the boom in conjunction with the use of the same primarily when sailing before the wind (6) in the intended direction of sailing (7) of the boat. In accordance with the invention, there is connected between the boat (2) and the boom (3) a brake that is formed from at least one strap (10) and a strap-locking reel (11) of the car safety belt type, which performs the function of braking the strap in the event of the rapid tensile actuation of the same, and which also provides automatic winding-up of the strap (10) onto the reel (11). The strap-locking reel (11) is so arranged, in the event of rapid actuation and pivoting of the boom (3), as to brake the continued unwinding of the strap from the reel (11), thereby retaining the boom (3) and preventing it from pivoting back over the boat again.
