Abstract

A method for leaching or dissolving metals from a metal containing material is described. According to this method the metal containing material is brought into contact with a mixture comprising three different chemicals i.e. a solution of a metal leachant, a pH-adjuster, in an amount sufficient to lower the pH of the solution of the metal leachant to a value below 3.5, and an oxidizer, in an amount sufficient to provide an oxidation/reduction potential (ORP) of the solution that will lead to oxidation of the metals.
