Abstract

In a method for determining strength properties of paper pulp long and short fiber fractions are removed from samples of the pulp and the middle fiber fraction is concentrated to a predetermined level, whereupon a liquid drainage test is performed on the middle fiber fraction. A corresponding apparatus comprises a fractioning chamber (10), divided into at least three compartments (12, 14, 16) by at least two partitioning screen cloths (18, 20) of different mesh numbers. A middle compartment (14) limited by the two screen cloths is intended to accumulate a middle fiber fraction of pulp samples, from which long and short fiber fractions are removed, when pulp samples supplied to the chamber (10) are passed through screen cloths (18, 20) of successively higher mesh numbers. An outlet means (26, 28, 30) is provided for supplying test samples from the middle fiber fraction to a drainage test device (32).
