Abstract

Detection of the presence and/or concentration of urea in a liquid in the form of blood, other urea containing body fluids, and/or dialysate involves contacting the liquid with a voltammetric electronic tongue having at least one working electrodes. Detection of the presence and/or concentration of urea in a liquid in the form of blood, other urea containing body fluids and/or dialysate involves: (a) bringing the liquid into contact with a voltammetric electronic tongue, having at least one working electrode; (b) applying a predefined potential pulse program to the working electrode and a counter electrode; (c) recording current response data caused by potential pulse program; and (d) performing a mathematical analysis of recorded current response data according to a model based on multivariate analysis to provide a result. An Independent claim is also included for a system for analysis of urea comprising a voltammetric sensor unit comprising at least one working electrode, a counter electrode, a potentiostat having a programmable pulse generator and a processing unit for the mathematical processing of voltammetric data using a model based on multivariate analysis.
