Abstract

A swing arm actuator (38) drives the rotation of a pivotal swing arm (21) and a head assembly (24) on a longitudinal axis. A drill rod (25) is manually loaded on the head assembly at a side load position relative to a feed frame (11), such that the drill rod is bodily moved to a loading position on top of the feed frame for axial alignment with a drill string. A mounting unit attaches an elongated slide guide (19), which extends to the longitudinal direction of the feed frame along one side, to the feed frame. A drive unit performs the slide movement of a carriage assembly (20) such that the carriage assembly is guided to slide lengthwise along the slide guide. The swing arm which extends outward, is pivotally supported on the carriage assembly. A swivel attachment between the head support frame of the head assembly and the outer end of a swing arm enables tilting operation of the head assembly relative to the swing arm on a transverse axis through a tilt actuator.
