Abstract

Collimating or focusing in an optical subassembly is provided by a lens (18) in a housing to define the optical path between the back-end of a junction fiber and the collimated beam of light outside the receptacle. Light emitted from the laser channel in a laser diode package (41) is expanded and collimated by a lens (42) before being aligned with the ball lens (18) by an optical component (44). Independent claims are included for: (1) an optical receptacle for sub-assembly; (2) an optical receiver; and (3) an optical transmitter.
