Abstract
Eight members of the IAA inducible Aux/IAA gene family designated as <i>Ptt</i>IAA1-8(SEQ.ID. NO. 1-8) have been isolated from the woody plant hybid aspen (<i>Populus tremula </i> L.x <i>Populus tremuloides </i>) and the corresponding amino acid sequences described (SEQ.ID.NO.9-16), as well as three promoter sequences (SEQ. ID. NO. 17-19). These findings make it possible to regulate the auxin sensitivity in woody plants in a specific tissue directed manner, and to regulate the wood quantity and/or wood quality in said plants. By incorporating the novel sequences or dominant mutations thereof in the genome of a plant , preferably together with a promoter according to the invention, a transgenic plant exhibiting altered auxin sensitivity is created. The sequences can also be incorporated in a self replicating system, sustainable within a plant, resulting in said plant exhibiting altered auxin sensitivity.
