Abstract
Temperature sensors (7, 8) capable of wireless data transmission are attached to the inner and outer bearing rings (3, 4), so that a control device can alter process parameters if a given maximum temperature differential is exceeded. A method for operating a drying cylinder or thermal roll (1) in a paper machine with at least one bearing (2) comprising inner and outer rings and with certain regions of the roll being supplied with a temperature control medium (5), e.g. steam, comprises supplying to a control device the difference between the inner and outer ring temperatures (TI, TA) and the process parameters, so that the parameters can be altered in order to prevent a maximum temperature differential being exceeded. The process parameters which can be altered are the amount and/or temperature of the temperature control medium and bearing lubricant oil being supplied. An Independent claim is also included for a bearing arrangement, comprising inner and outer rings connected to temperature sensors and with roller or slide bodies in between, at least one of the sensors being capable of wireless transmission of temperature data.
