Abstract
The invention concerns a cellular radio communication system, including a base station (1) with an associated master unit (2) which is connected by means of fiber optical cables (15, 16, 17, 18) to a number of remotely located repeater units (3, 4, 5, 6). Coded signals are distributed as RF-modulated opti-cal signals through a single fiber optical transmission cable (15), connected between said master unit (2) and a distribu-tion network (15, 42, 16, 43, 17, 44, 18), which in turn is con-nected to said repeater units (3, 4, 5, 6). A first set of spe-cific, mutually separated optical frequency bands are used for transferring RF-modulated optical signals from said master unit (2) to said repeater units (3, 4, 5, 6), while a second set of optical frequency bands are used for transferring signals in the opposite direction. Each optical frequency band in each set corresponds to a particular repeater unit. The first and second sets of optical frequency bands may be separated from each other, or identical to each other.
