Abstract

At least one wheel-mounted sensor (15) is used to detect the mechanical forces and stress occurring in one of the vehicle tires whilst the vehicle is moving. Measurement is carried out whilst the wheel has been subjected to an exaggerated toe-in or toe-out angle adjustment. Measured data is processed electronically and converted into signals representing the friction between the wheel and road. These signals are transmitted in a wireless manner, preferably using radio waves, to an on-board receiver (17) with an indicator device (29) for displaying the friction value. An Independent claim is also included for the measuring apparatus.
